A serene escape from townlife into real nature, akin to the New forest. Our family loves this place, we took 3 children under the age of 7 on an adventure in this secret woodland. We enjoyed following the map to find the River board walk to see the dragonflies. For us the mushrooms and insects were exciting, and seeing the odd fox and squirrel. Very quiet and unused, it was nice to get away from crowds. No wait to buy tickets, no queue, just have to find the warden to buy the tickets and they may not always be in the office. I would recommend covering legs and feet properly even in a heatwave, I went in a heatwave and got tics on my shoes. -We did stick to the paths so I guess it was some longer patches of grass on the paths towards the river walk that had tics on them - to be expected from...
Read moreMany people mention walking dogs here. WRONG! Dogs are NOT allowed in the Wildgrounds Nature Reserve, neither are cycles or picnics. There is also a small charge to enter the Wildgrounds Nature Reserve, and there are restricted opening hours. The, unexpectedly large, area has been left as nature intended and is a beautiful, quiet oasis of woodland, ponds and wildlife. Read moreIf you get the chance, when this reserve can reopen in 2021 (hopefully) do go. Gosport is so lucky to have this little (actually quite large ) piece of natural woodland and open space. Which is well worth the small charge to visit. Great for families with children but note that dogs must be on leads. Or just a place to go and escape the "rat race" . Treat it kindly, take your rubbish home ( there are no litter bins) and enjoy this...
