Awful awful awful. From the disgruntled greeting of 'sticking us on the balcony' to burnt garlic bread starter after 30mins wait (what kind of chef burns garlic bread) to waiting another 45 minutes after returning the burnt starter to receive a cold kids meal, two burnt bitter tasting steaks, and two staff members clearly ignoring us and serving two other waves of customers after us first, without even an apology for the delay or a sorry for the disgusting meals they served up as food (all the food for other tables flew out). My 8year old now has a tummy cramp from the beef burger that you had to re heat, garnished with a tiny bit of manky old lettuce from the bin or another plate. I wanted to leave and get a Chinese, wish I had gone with my gut instinct but when you have starving hungry kids and wife you try and bear with it so they can eat. Been in here two or three times to eat this year always decent, different staff tonight and different 'chef' presumably, certainly a different outcome. Only decent honourable thing was the barmaid refunded the whole meal and was apologising, but would much rather have eaten properly for the money without the risk of food poisoning my family. Disgraceful, and absolutely no need for it or the arsey attitude of a waitress, and a waiter who belongs on a building site, staring at you and gobbing off all around, but can't do he's job of a check back on a table. Fuming aint the word if my nipper is rough all night and tomorrow, ill be coming straight back...
Read moreThis is not really negative review, as denied the opportunity to have food or beer but thought both the pub and visitors should be aware.
I was gifted a British pub card as a Bithday gift, so thought I will pop into this refurbished pub. Only 1 person in front of me, who committed on how good my dogs were. As he left another gentleman arrived and was immediately served before me, I do not know why. When I was eventually served, another dog owner arrived. Unfortunately my own dog let out some welcoming, excited screams. The bar maid looked very distressed, and I enquired if she was OK. She said she was autistic and the had a lot of food orders, so I said I will leave, which she said - if I didn't mind., so I did, indicating that I would leave feedback.
Felt if I had been served first, I would have been away from the bar, but more so embarrassed / Slightly disappointed & annoyed I did not have my birthday drink and meal.
As I am profoundly deaf, the situation may have louder that I preceived - I will except that.
However, I commend flaming grill (The Cocked Hat) for diverse employment (sorry to the bar maid for causing distress) and warn noisy dog owners, that your not really welcome, understandably if you have a dog that reacts with another dogs, (which, unfortunately was my...

We booked a meal here tonight for 5.30pm.
We were welcomed by a helpful lady who told us to order via the app or bar.
We ordered our food and was told it'd be a half an hour wait.
Fifty minutes later our food arrived, all apart from a rack of ribs which arrived 5 minutes after the rest of the food.
Nobody checked back to see if all was well during our mains.
We went on to order desserts.
This time the wait was an hour !
45 minutes into this time I had been to the bar to chase them up and was told 'they are just being prepared.'
When they finally arrived I mentioned we had been waiting an hour. We were told they had been 'backed up in the kitchen.'
Another lady possibly the manager came over and mentioned a new digital system had been introduced since reopening and this was the reason they were late.
We eventually left at 8.20pm after purposely booking at 5.30pm as we had a 6 year old with us.
No refunds offered just 'free desserts' next time we visit. Nothing noted down just empty words. As if they'd remember us.
I spent a total of £92.93 tonight. £74.19 on mains/drinks and £18.74 on desserts. Receipts can be provided.
If tonight's anything to go by I very much doubt we'll be rushing back.
Never had any issues here in the...
