A place made for the gentlest of strolls in the heyday of seaside resorts & there are echoes of its glory days. There are raised beds with flowers that during our July visit gave a wonderful splash of colour. There's a small cafe with outdoor seating area next to kids trampolines & a crazy golf course. Further on there's a set of swings & swing-boats, miniature railway & kids play park. To the rear of the park there's a larger play area with a sand pit, climbing frame & zip wire. The footpaths meander passed a few small ponds between the greenery & there's a large "Monkey-Puzzle" tree - a must for every park of its day. The lamp standards too are from days gone by & the lamp sections are missing but the poles are fluted up their height. Shaped & decorated cross bars at the top of the lamp posts are positioned to take hanging baskets that alas were not on display. The detail shows the thought, care & attention that was lavished on their design in those days gone by. The park is just off the promenade which has been refurbished in recent years & allows a walk along the seafront with sweeping views across Morecambe Bay & from where you can see the peaks of the...
Read moreTake cash Firstly I should say as someone who uses debit card a lot and didn't have cash at this time, it would have been a real struggle had my husband not had cash when you can't use card much. The park is obviously free to enter but some of the attractions we knew you had to pay for. I don't think £1.50 is unreasonable at all for the trampoline, the miniature railway and the 'guarded' playground, with the splash park being a bit more and the golf being the highest but still reasonable. The toilets are self contained and well managed but you need to pay 40p to access them. There are still many play areas free particularly towards the far end from the coastal entrance, sand pits, zip wires and other things along with many sheltered areas, the Japanese Garden and other walking trails plus a Poppy Memorial and an Insect hotel. The cafe has a reputation for not being great but I would definitely visit the park again with a picnic. It would really get a '7 out of 10' but the usual rules apply and so the 3 stars are on a rating with what I would give to other venues of...
