A right good Great British Café!
The Bow Window, unlike its food portions, is a modest sized establishment with two cracking bay windows looking out onto Morecambe Bay with Grange over Sands and Flookburgh in the distance. Only the main road (Marine Road East) spoils the view out of these windows.
Our visit today was met with several portions of their homemade steak pie, scampi and a couple of all day breakfasts. Not a stingy portion to be seen. This hearty feast was brought to us by their friendly and helpful staff. đ
But it was the attention to detail that impressed us; like bringing extra water with our brews, so that we can make more tea when we were ready. And they asked us what sauces we would like BEFORE our food arrived, so no waiting for condiments before we could commence with our gastronomic demolition work.
And yes, those steak pies were pure filth! Each piece of steak simply melted in the mouth without the slightest hint of a fight. Served up with proper man-chips (not girly little Mcfries) and a mountain of sweet juicy peas. If I was too nit-pick, then I would've liked my pastry a touch thicker. But I'm sure plenty would disagree. It's just me, I love thick buttery pastry. đ
Feeling cocky, we thought we would finish off with a few dollops of ice cream. But our faces soon dropped when our two "scoops" arrived before us. This place must have the largest ice cream scooperer in the country, as each dollop was like eating a delicious edible football. Rum and Raisin for me; with every raisin fully loaded with rum! Hope there's no police about when I drive home. The lemon meringue ice cream was as equally fit, as was their other flavours too.
In all in all, a great place to eat at sensible prices. And we're already planning our next visit. I might try out their "whale" and chips...
Read moreWe arrived here on the 17th of April after a pretty long walk so we had an appetite. I orderd the very large breakfast and my wife ordered the Tea cake. The Tea cake was the best one she has ever eaten with delicous Jam, and Butter, along with what seemed like an endless pot of tea with fresh tea leaves. My breakfast was extremely good. I have never seen such beautifully prepared poached eggs in my life that just oozed the most delicous yoke. The sausages were beautiful as was the beans, and crispy toast. Hash browns great. The Bacon was nice but seemed to be unsmoked. The only downside I could find was that the black pudding was not great, not because of the coooking of it, but I have eaten that brand before and it does not have great flavour, (Also being a scotsman we have a refined palate for black pudding lol). The latte was so good, that I had two. The staff were extremely friendly, and helpful. This cafe / restaurant sits on the main road across from the promenade, and is tastefully decortated. I would recommend it as the best breakfast I have had in 11 years of...
