Park Square is a nice space, a little bit of greenery in the centre of the city. Surrounded by offices in very old (but beautifully maintained) buildings, Park Square is a very small, self-contained but very neatly kept area, with benches dotted around (thankfully WITHOUT those awful anti-homeless devices on them, or this would be a one-star review!) And metal railings and gates all around the space.
The lawns are regularly cut and the flowerbeds carefully tended to. Waste bins around the place which people actually use, so litter is not a problem.
In the summer, there is a regular ice cream van parked nearby but there is also a Tesco Express a very short walk away on St. Paul's Street, which is great for stocking up on drinks and snacks for your picnic!
My friends and I often take a blanket and a small Bluetooth speaker, grab a couple of bottles of pear cider, some snacks and while away a few hours in this park. Please don't play your music loud though - remember there are people working in offices all around you!! And USE THE DAMN BINS for your waste - that includes cigarette butts. Don't be one of the minority idiots who ruin things for the rest of us!!!
Sometimes, there are ping-pong tables and other bits of fun sports equipment set up in the park but I don't know who they belong to so I've never tried using them! The space is not entirely exposed to the sun, there are several trees that provide shade for those who desire it.
Pokémon Go fans will be pleased to know that some very rare Pokémon have been spotted here. I don't play the game myself but I know plenty who do ;)
Things to be aware of - during the week, in summer it gets VERY busy with the local office workers choosing to have their lunches in the park. Each to their own but I prefer to avoid the park at these times because I personally believe that the local workers deserve priority over this space at lunchtimes!
Also, there has been instances of anti-social street drinkers coming to this area. I've never seen any aggro from them but they probably are best left well alone.
I don't have any photos right now but I'll take some next time I'm passing and upload (provided I'm able to edit...
Read morePark Square was originally an upmarket housing development for 18th century Leeds merchants. Unfortunately for the promoters of the scheme the merchants preferred the suburbs to the increasingly industrialised city centre. The square still retains some of its old Georgian houses - now almost all converted to offices. The South side of the square has a splendid Victorian mill building (also now offices) with splendid ornamentation inspired by the Alhambra. In the centre of the square is a public open space, beautifully maintained by Leeds City Council and popular with...
Read moreA little spot of beauty and peace amongst the city centre bustle. Perfect spot for some lunch, a smoke or just to sit and enjoy the gorgeous trees and surrounding buildings. The buildings have a very London-esque feel, a lovely little escape in the middle of Leeds. The cherry blossom tree in the centre dedicated to Hiroshima and Nagasaki victims always moves me, it's a beautiful tribute to people so terribly wronged. Overall, if you're looking for peace and prettiness in the middle of Leeds - this...
