Fantastic food, beautiful surroundings, great atmosphere. The food was amazing, all of it was tasty but certain items were on another level. Special mention to the guy serving us, that is how waiting staff should be, he was very professional but friendly, straight away he asked if we had been before and if we had any questions. He was very helpful, the experience could have seemed pretentious but he made us feel very comfortable. We asked a fair few questions. All the waiting staff had excellent knowledge about the dishes. We had one of the set menus, menu two at £47. You get plenty of food. My partner can eat, but we were both very full afterwards. Right now hopefully that's what you needed to know and here's more detail if you are interested. If not feel free to stop reading. They were out of the sticky beef short ribs but offered that we could swap it out with anything from course one of menu three or one if we had wanted to. We chose the the wagyu dumplings and seared tuna which they did, letting us sample both, rather than just one. The seared tuna cane with a sprinkling of caviar, even though this is not mentioned on the menu, so perhaps they also swap in ingredients that they have in their stores. They also swapped out the king prawns in course two, with sea bass, it was still served in the chilli, tomato and palm sugar sauce. For dessert they bring over a separate menu, which from memory, included six options and we were told that we could select any two. We ordered two pints of tattu beer on draught, I think I overheard a member of staff telling another customer that it is a Belgium pilsner (but don't hold me to that). We wanted a pint of Asahi but they had only just installed the tap and were waiting on a delivery of the kegs. They automatically offered us water and brought bottled water over, we corrected them and asked for the tap variety, which they were happy to bring. I felt like they have paid attention to detail with the decor. Another nice touch was the glassware, not the most basic of basic but a step up, more elegant. The lady a couple of tables down even asked if they had a mobile phone charger and they took her phone and charged it behind the bar for her.
Another visit, we took advantage of a January offer and got 30% discount off our total bill. Went on a Tuesday evening, very lively atmosphere, with party vibe music. The staff brilliant as ever. Friendly and attentive without being the slightest bit pretentious, they explain the dishes and are very...
Read morePros: Most of the food was delicious - what I took photographs of. The cocktails were also worth the money in looks & taste. Service was friendly but that's about it in terms of positives.
Cons: 8-10 menu items were unavailable - that's 1/4 of the menu - because the steamer was broken. Pretty poor to not compensate your diners in any way considering we couldn't order arguably the most popular dishes. Obviously all we got was a sorry. Service did not go above & beyond in any way. Considering the service charge is mandatory, it should be better. We arrived on the dot for our reservation & were told they were running a little late so we had to wait, no problems. Luckily we were 2 people but got seated at a 4-seater table near the main pretty cherry blossom part of the restaurant. However, if you are going as just 2 people be warned that you will most likely be seated in the sad dark tight zone behind the bar near the kitchen & toilets because that's where they've put all the 2 seater tables, with no ambience other than the nightclub music. It's way too loud for what is supposed to be a nice meal, can't really see the food either. When ordering, we chose 5 small plates and were strongly encouraged to order a large plate too. I wish we'd held our ground - we ended up overeating & wasting about £30 on unnecessary food. Also, the steamer was broken but we were able to order wagyu kimchi dumplings... which were delayed, but steamed, & served in a steamed dim sum dish... how's that possible? It took longer than our other small plates. When asked if everything was ok with our food, I said 5 plates were delicious but the sausage duck egg fried rice was not, hence why it had been left. And all I got was a shrug. What's the point in asking if you won't actually take the feedback & do something about it? Hand drier in toilet was also broken & it's awkward going to the loo because you have to navigate through staff behind & around the bar to get there.
Overall worth a visit but don't expect anything special. I think the experience here is hit & miss which is disappointing because anywhere that has prices like here has to be seamless, every time to make it worth it... otherwise it's daylight...
Read moreI have visited Tattu in Birmingham on a number of occasions and so on Boxing Day this year as a special treat to myself (because I think I'm worth it) decided to try the Leeds venue. I drove up to Leeds in the afternoon and was booked into a very nice hotel just around the corner so I could enjoy everything the menu had to offer. A proper indulgent night out for myself Just to put this into context, for myself dining alone for 3 courses plus drinks and cocktails my total bill came in just short of £140. On top of this I tipped Wilson my server (who was exceptional) an additional £20 so this is an expensive night out however you look at it. Expectations are super high. The venue itself is pretty. If you are trying to impress somebody, this will do it. The menu however felt a little short. Some of the signature Tattu dishes were missing which is a shame and possibly down to the ongoing supply chain issues that are all too common. But there was no wow! My starter was beef short ribs. Very good and delightfully sticky but not fall apart good meaning eating with chopsticks was a slight challenge. I was tempted to ask for a knife. My main course steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce was nice but again, nothing exciting. My desert, whilst flambed looked like a brown mush once the flames had quickly subsided. Indeed on this point, for most of the night looking around the room, the theatre I have come to expect (and enjoy) at Tattu was missing. The occasional cocktail with a bit of dry ice but honestly all a bit ordinary. After desert a cocktail. Only 3 after dinner cocktails are offered. The one I wanted, sadly sold out and whilst served in a fancy bottle, again, nothing special to look at A couple of servings of (exceptionally good) Sake to end and my evening is over. So the food was good. The service was exceptional but the very reason I am prepared to spend over £150 on a meal for one, the drama and theatre that I have seen Tattu do so well before was simply not there. Had this been half the price then I could have still given 4 stars but at this level, expectations are very very high and tonight they simply were not met. I was/am left just feeling...
