Read moreI found the art gallery as a suggestion online for leeds kids days out recommended 4years+ yet I feel this gallery is not child friendly. Children are naturally inquisitive and excitable, the prospect of visiting an art gallery sparks immediate interest and curiosity. It is my opinion that this space is far too strict and limiting on children and in some ways sets young children up to to be reprimanded. It felt similar to when you walk down the isle with pots and glass on the shelves and there is no fun in this. It is a disaster waiting to happen fueling anxiety in both adult and child and I cannot understand why it would be on suggestions for family days with particular reference to young children etc. I tried to enjoy the area for children which included some nice activities albeit a little boring but safe to say I did not stay long as my children have a love for creativity and art and to be honest I did not want to risk this being negatively influenced. Perhaps we will visit when the children are older perhaps not. For now, I shall see it as a learning curve when planning family days out as the anxiety I have experienced today has been unpleasant. This is just my opinion that will hopefully help any others with a young family planning to visit. Just some things to keep in mind. I hope it may help the staff too as I imagine they could do without such...
Read moreWent to see the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibition and was quite disappointed. On entering the gallery I was expecting some posters or directions to the exhibition. Unfortunately I had just walked straight past it to the right of the entrance. I turned and by chance saw people entering a darkened room through automatic doors. The heading for the exhibition was turned through 90 degrees at the side of the doorway. Not a natural reading position when trying to get your attention. The exhibits were drawings and writings of the great man's work, inventions, anatomy and sculptures. All pages about A4 or less, framed behind glass and under spotlight. However for me they were a little low on the wall as I am 6'-4" tall it was painful stooping to see. The description plagues were even lower and I found the whole visit painful. The wasted wall space could have been usefully filled with enlargements of the exhibits as Leonardo was famous for his miniscule writing and it would give visitors a chance to actually see what was being exhibited. There was also a short video running demonstrating how the paper, paints, inks and quill pens were made at the time. A small exhibition that I would have been even more disappointed about if I had traveled any distance to see. I just traveled in from Leeds 9 thank goodness. And that review is from a big admirer...
