This absolutely fantastic little hidden gem of a narrow guage railway is well worth a visit with the little steamies in your life.
Hop aboard and take a slow and steady steam along three miles of tracks through Leighton Buzzard and out into the Bedfordshire countryside to Stonehenge works. Here you'll find some more engines, and diggers ready to work the sand pits and quarries and plenty of things for the little train lover to climb on and explore.
Back at the station you can get up close with the engines in the sheds and learn about the history of the railway and it's wartime beginnings. Stop for a coffee and a cake at the station cafe.
And if you tire of riding the train you can while away the afternoon in the park and watch others embarking on their adventures.
This railway is 100% volunteer run so every penny they make goes toward keeping these fantastic little...
Read moreVisited for the bank holiday pirate special, and it was such a treat! The staff here are ridiculously friendly and helpful, and they all got into the zone as pirates and made the whole experience twice as great because they were all committed to their roles! The steam train ride is a lovely journey, and you get a pitstop at the end of the line where they have a small kids play area, exhibits to look at, and refreshments. The bank holiday special meant that anyone that wanted to get involved could sit in the open carriage armed with a water pistol, and then when the track turned into a twin track a carriage of pirates were waiting with pistols and cannons for an attack, what great fun!!!! In the main building back at base, there are some engine sheds to look at and a lovely cafe serving up breakfasts, hot and cold drinks, and delicious hot...
Read moreWill consume, at most, 2 hours of your time. You will have a pleasant 25 minute journey to "Stonehenge", 20 minutes to look around and then 25 minutes return journey if you want to go back on the same train. On your return there is the option of the shed tour to look at the other trains.
Largest failing is a lack of things to do at the Stonehenge end, meaning if you opt to return on the next train (or get distracted and miss the call for your return) you have about a 1.5 hour wait with very little to pass the time. There is a gift shop and cafe but limited internal seating (if any) so a problem if the weather goes bad.
You're looking at £32 for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids over 2 yeas) so time:cost ratio is fairly high but ultimately worth at least 1 visit.
