Bishop’s Park is a charming riverside green space that runs from Putney Bridge to Fulham Football Club, offering long, leafy walks along the Thames with views across to the Putney foreshore and rowing clubs. Opened in 1893 and Grade II listed, it blends Victorian heritage with everyday community life, sitting beside Fulham Palace and All Saints Church for added historic character.
What stands out is the variety packed into a relatively slim stretch: tennis courts, bowling greens, basketball and table tennis, plus a skate area and spacious playgrounds for different ages. Families especially gravitate to the large sandpit, seasonal water play/paddling area, and the “urban beach,” which makes sunny days feel like a mini holiday by the river. Sundays bring a lively food market near the central area, and there’s a café with indoor/outdoor seating to round off a stroll.
The ornamental lakes, rustic bridges, sculpture and rose gardens add pockets of calm and interest for slower visits, with memorials—including to the International Brigade—reflecting the park’s layered story. Practical access is straightforward via Putney Bridge Underground and local buses, and it’s free to enter, making it easy to drop in for a quick walk or a full afternoon.
If there’s a caveat, occasional reports note that routine gardening can feel a touch uneven at times, though restoration funding has preserved the park’s core charm and facilities remain well used by locals. Overall, Bishop’s Park is a reliable, scenic staple for runs, picnics, playtime, and Thames-side wanders—an everyday classic with real character...

Admire the roses planted near to all saints church or stroll into Fulham Palace for trained gardens, historical splendor and a quiet cut of tea. In the heart of the park is an open area occasionally hosting markets or events for the family to enjoy. There are two fenced playgrounds with fantastic equipment appropriate for kids from 0-15 and skate ramps and table tennis for older kids. In the summer you can pretend to be abroad as you sit by the 'beach' and watch your children play on the sand or run through the fountains to cool off - don't forget their swimmers! There is a pretty lake to walk around and you can feed the ducks or sit on the grass or nearby bench and enjoy a picnic.
