Have previously experienced poor food and slow service at The Half Moon but have previously not said anything and decided to give it another chance. We booked a table for Friday evening. Not too busy, fairly Covid secure, and a pleasant start to the night. Ordered a burger and chips on the app (although the waitress had to come over to confirm the menu choices- one being invitingly titled 'Main Meat 4'). Took a long time for the food to come to us, two burgers were brought instead of one, which we queried, honestly; since it was a mistake the waitress kindly left them with us. However, the food was stone cold. When we told her this she told us that: "The food is cooked outside in the shack and it's cold out there"- not really a suitable excuse since it wasn't that cold and the shack is 20m away from our table, so assuming it starts off hot it should make it to the table hot. When we asked for it to be heated up the response was: "Fine, I'll take it away and only bring you back one burger then"- since we only ordered one burger we were prepared for this but it did seem unnecessarily passive aggressive. The chips then returned dripping with hot fat and too hot to handle, proving the fact that hot food is possible to serve from a cold shack, although the burger had by that point become even colder itself. Incredibly disappointing and given that The Half Moon is our local pub it would be great if they raised their standards, especially not currently being able to fall back on the USP...
Read moreIn spite of the Covid restrictions I got warm welcome and good service but at £5:90 for a pint of cider how can I ever afford to become a regular again. Add a few of those onto the price of a ticket for a gig and it's nigh on a days wage. I used to drink here with my Dad and Grandad back in the early 90's but no way can I afford to do that now at these prices. Such a shame for the staff because the pub is pricing out the very people who have been the lifeblood of here since the beginning. Can't see it surviving much longer charging those sort of prices to people. Just heartbreaking because it's almost one of the last genuine venues left in London for live music. Stop ponsifying it and concentrate on the music heritage then it'll last forever otherwise it'll become another supermarket or flats. It was never meant to be either an upmarket Restaraunt on an overpriced Burger Bar selling from a shed in the garden. Not on the Lower Ricmond Road. Take it from someone who's lived here all his life and knows the local market. A music venue survives by patrons coming to see a gig and having a good time drinking beer at reasonable prices and...
Read moreWe went in tonight on a quiet Sunday evening. Really really disappointed being honest. Ordered the roast beef and the roast chicken. Sat outside and clearly saw the chicken being done on the BBQ Grill (not exactly roasted) but that wasn’t such a big deal, when the meals arrived the only thing hot on them was the meat. Beef burnt to a crisp albeit. Everything else stone cold and Yorkshire’s overcooked and cold. When it arrived we also had to wait for cutlery while the food was sat in front of us, while the server was patting our dog. We politely asked for our food to be hot, when it returned it had clearly just been shoved into a microwave, gravy had congealed and the whole thing horrific. Also when you order a roast you expect roast potatoes. We got boiled potatoes?! We waited for a check back and never got one so we finished what was edible of the meals and went to the toilet, to top it all off no toilet roll. Extremely disappointed and probably the worst experience I’ve had eating out. I’d like to be contacted by some form of management as there really didn’t seem to be one around tonight as this was quite frankly...
