🌳 Introduction to Finsbury Park 📍 Location Finsbury Park is located in North London, spanning three boroughs — Islington, Haringey, and Hackney. It borders the areas of Manor House, Stroud Green, and Harringay. The Finsbury Park underground and railway station sits at the park’s southern end, offering excellent transport links via the Victoria Line, Piccadilly Line, and National Rail services. 🕰️ Historical Background Year Established: 1869 Origins: Finsbury Park was created as part of the Victorian-era “Metropolitan Parks Movement”, designed to provide green, recreational space for London’s rapidly growing and industrialising population. At the time, North-East London was densely populated and lacking in greenery — making this park a much-needed urban oasis. Name Origins: Despite its name, Finsbury Park is not located in the historic Finsbury district near central London. The name “Finsbury” was adopted to lend the park a sense of prestige. ✨ Park Highlights 🛶 1. Boating Lake At the park’s centre lies a small artificial lake offering seasonal boating activities. It's also a popular spot for feeding ducks and photography enthusiasts alike. 🚴 2. Parkland Walk Connecting Highgate to Finsbury Park, this converted disused railway line is one of London’s longest nature trails. Lined with trees and teeming with wildlife, it's ideal for walking, running, and birdwatching. ⚽ 3. Sports Facilities The park boasts a wide range of sports amenities, including tennis courts, five-a-side football pitches, a baseball diamond, basketball courts, a skatepark, and outdoor gym equipment — catering to all age groups. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 4. Family & Community-Friendly Spaces Families flock here on weekends for the children's playgrounds, wide open lawns, picnic areas, and cafés. 🎶 5. Major Event Venue Finsbury Park is a prominent site for outdoor festivals, such as the annual Wireless Festival, which draws tens of thousands of attendees each summer. 🌿 Modern Development & Social Role After a period of decline between the 1970s and 1990s, the park underwent major restoration and landscaping from the 2000s onwards, reclaiming its role as a vital community hub. Today, Finsbury Park is more than just a green space — it's a focal point for community engagement, sporting activity, and cultural events. Volunteer groups often partner with local authorities on conservation, clean-ups, and guided tours. 📸 Recommended Photo & Relaxation Spots Duck-feeding zone and boating lake (especially beautiful in morning light) Tree-lined avenues and autumn foliage Street art and old railway arches along Parkland Walk Community garden and butterfly beds in the park’s northern section

Very large open space, with lots to offer for all ages and it is continuously improving. There is a large play area suitable for both toddlers and older children. Outdoor exercise equipment is available along with tennis, netball, basketball courts and a running track. The Park has two cafes with one of them being dog friendly. There is a boating lake, near the children's playground which attracts lots of birds. This area is popular with joggers, people strolling around or exercising, some having picnics in the grass or sitting on one of the many benches dotted around the Park. It can get very busy but as it is such a big area, it is possible to find a quiet spot if that is what you prefer. Finsbury often has fun fairs, festivals and concerts and other events held here. As I have mentioned in another review of Finsbury Park playground, the area does not feel safe after dark as there is no proper lighting along with people loitering in the area in the dark.

The park is lovely to walk around on early mornings in spring/summer - it's so nice to see the waterfowl nesting on the boating lake and their babies (the Egyptian goslings are particularly cute!) It's also nice to sit on a bench in McKenzie Gardens and enjoy the view. Unfortunately, during the summer months the park is overtaken by massive-capacity events, meaning much of the park is cordoned off from public use, and often leaving the ground damaged (either with large patches of dead grass or, if its been raining, leaving churned up mud and boggy areas). The influx of thousands of people into the area can also be quite intimidating, especially late at night, so recommend avoiding the area during the events if you just want to enjoy the park.

I recently attended a concert at Finsbury Park featuring Jamie T, and while the overall performance, atmosphere, and food selection were enjoyable, there were some notable drawbacks that affected my experience.

Let's start with the positives. Jamie T's performance was exceptional, and the overall atmosphere at Finsbury Park was lively and energetic. It created a great environment to enjoy the music and connect with fellow concert-goers.

The food options at the venue were diverse and satisfying. With meals averaging between £9-12, there was a decent variety to choose from, catering to different tastes and dietary preferences. It was a relief to have quality food options available to keep us fueled throughout the event.

However, there were some shortcomings in the drink department. The selection of drinks at the bars was limited, and to make matters worse, some attendees experienced issues with the beer taps. This hindered the overall convenience and enjoyment of purchasing beverages during the concert.

One major inconvenience was the lack of essential supplies in the toilets. While there were plenty of toilets available, it was disappointing to find that most lacked sanitizers or toilet paper. This oversight in basic amenities impacted the overall comfort and cleanliness of the facilities.

Additionally, I encountered an unexpected disappointment upon entry. Festival Republic was confiscating disposable vapes, even though they were not listed as banned items. This caused frustration as it resulted in unnecessary expenses to replace the vape I had just purchased moments before entering the venue. The confusion surrounding this policy was disappointing, especially considering the fact that disposable vapes are often considered less flammable and healthier alternatives to traditional cigarettes.

In conclusion, my experience at the concert in Finsbury Park was a mixed bag. While the performance by Jamie T, the overall atmosphere, and the food selection were commendable, there were notable drawbacks. The limited drink options and issues with the beer taps, as well as the lack of essential supplies in the toilets, were disappointing aspects of the event. Furthermore, the confusion and inconvenience caused by the unexpected confiscation of disposable vapes were frustrating. These areas of improvement need attention to enhance the overall concert experience for...

This wonderful green Oasis in this part of North London is an amazingly beautiful but simple ensure zone. The variety of walks avaliable for all moods is a delight. Zippos Circus were set up in the park presenting a modern day non animal act Circus extravaganza. 🎪 The river, pond and various secluded areas felt safe and well used. Joggers, painters, children playing on the excellent climbing frames, even a few parents on the zip wire, helped create a picture of open natural fun in this Metropolis. The nearby cafe was endowed with a wide range of goodies and refreshments and the staff were smiling and helpful. Swans sailed by on the lake with 3 Signets in tow. A variety of ducks, Coots and Mallards quacked their way around the banks while, a variety of birds flew in and out of the woodlands adjacent. Butterflies flew around the gardens. Sitting on a fallen tree, in the sunny sultry October Autumn sky with Squirrels dashing about gathering their Winter stores was delightful. One even came close enough to nearly touch. Living on the coast myself, it felt great to still feel that this haven of green and natural beauty is available to...
