It seems l didn't find all the park on this visit so it really is a Dr Who's Tardus with spaces within spaces ! A quiet ornamental garden lies behind the tennis courts. It has a couple of amazing tall palm trees set amongst a bed of colourful mixed annuals. Update September , 2nd Visit !! :Farther down the main path is a delightful refreshment kiosk run by a park stalwart for the last 16 years. It's cash only but that will get you tea, cake, sandwiches, slush puppies, di sotto ice cream or the usual chill box varieties of stuff on a stick ! The seating is definitely conversation friendly as it's in its own screened area; you won't be 'drowned' out by noise from the water garden or the amazing quirky adventure playground beyond it. It's sad to say that the water fountains haven't really worked all summer and l would urge K&C to sort it out because a decades heavy use usually means it needs a major overhaul. If funds are short to do that, launch a Justgiving page or approach Space hive who will be glad to help. The range of equipment in the playground area and space between pieces means someone planned this very carefully to challenge kids from 2 or 3 right up to lower teens. Other park planners should take note. This truly is a five star play area and one l shall bring my...
Read moreThis is part of the St Quintin Estate in North Kensington, which was developed from the late 1860s. Kensington Memorial Park opened in 1923. During the Covid Pandemic have been taking my regular exercise and this is a great find and a lovely little park. Good to see everyone complying with Government guide lines and saving our NHS! When this park opened back in 1923 it retained it's original railings; recreational facilities include a paddling pool, tennis courts, playgrounds and a large open area of grass. The park has a line of Lombardy poplars and avenues. There are also formal areas of planting including a pergola railed off from the main sports area and a garden with shrub beds either side with two areas of circular rose beds with central palm set into the lawn and a central circular stone feature, possibly once a fountain. Really lovely park and very well kept well done Royal borough...
Read moreThis park is great! So much to keep children busy on a hot day and to cool down. The splash pad is great but it can get pretty busy, understandably, but it is still very much enjoyable. There are toilets and changing rooms here. The sand covered playground has a pirate ship and some cool giant fossils for children to dig and find. There are other bits to play on too. There is another playground right next to it for the older children, it is really cool that they have hopscotch numbers in various languages and an area for learning alphabet sign language! In this particular area of the park there is a water refill station which is handy for hydration. Upon the entrance to the park there is a large grassy area perfect for a picnic or some ball games etc.
The best part...its free! There is also local on street parking which is free...
