What a crushing disappointment Madame Tussaud's London turned out to be. AUD$400 for a family of 5 - which was all fine, until we got to the chamber of horrors. Two of our children (8,10) didn't want to go through and were shown through a door so they could circumnavigate the chamber and (we assumed) meet us on the other side as per Madame Tussaud's in Amsterdam.
Suddenly we were herded down to a theme park style ride where we spoke to the staff about going back to meet our children. The helpful staff members told us our children would come out at this point of the experience and said we could go through the ride to see if they'd already gone through or speak to the manager once we got through to help us find them. It was a very stressful situation compounded by the throngs of people waiting behind us to go through the ride. We reluctantly got on the ride and were met my a phalanx of staff, four in total, led by an immediately hostile and aggressive staff member by the name of Ren.
We were obviously distressed and worried when he approached us with an aggressive look on his face and immediately launched into a tirade, asking us if we were in the habit of leaving our children unattended and repeatedly questioning our parenting skills. He chastised us in the most humiliating, shocking and arrogant manner ('are you in the habit of leaving your kids alone?') as he walked us back the 20 metres to the hall where our children had been waiting, which he hadn't actually realised himself. Our children know that if they get separated to wait for us to come back. The whole ordeal took about 5 minutes while the Madame Tussaud staff followed us and engaged us in a shouting match right up to and including the moment we were reunited with our kids, in front of other patrons. Our children were completely relaxed - it was next to no time!
After we had found our children we asked to speak to a manager about Ren's rudeness, at which point one of the four staff that followed us around shouting abuse, jumped out and said he was the manager, a man by the name of Dani who continued the loud judgements in front of our children and other paying guests, telling us 'he'd never leave his kids.' We questioned why there were no signs or indications that it was not a simple room skip but an entirely different route through the attraction, but were met with silence and further questioning of our parental skills. It became obvious to me that their only concern was their liability and not my childrens' welfare. It was the most unprofessional display of customer service either of us had ever experienced and pretty shocking - all in front of others, including staff, patrons and our children.
The whole experience left us and our children very shaken - not so much being separated from, but being shouted at and chastised in public by a gang of staff members. As we exited the store we were met by a large group of teenagers sitting on the stairs almost completely blocking a designated fire exit. No staff member in sight to ask them to move out of the way. Further proof the staff have no interest in the welfare of their guests, just fleecing tourists.
Later, my wife asked to speak to a customer service representative and Dani came again to inform her that 'he was only the customer service representative.
All in all an extremely eye opening experience, a major disappointment and really not worth a fraction of the cost given the lack of respect to...

Read moreThe attraction had good quality wax works but a total lack of structure and people who had no idea how to take turns or to be aware of other people which ruined the whole experience.
The places where you could queue to have your photo taken by a staff member were fine, although some people did still try and push in, it was far better than the other wax works.
The taxi ride was brilliant and a personal highlight. It was informative and entertaining. The 4D cinema was also very good although the queuing was not a pleasant experience with a lot of pushing and shoving which really was not needed.
Several times adults would physically push my child out of the way, get in front of me when I was taking a photo, push in front of us as we were walking up to a wax work etc. it was very frustrating.
They either need to admit less people or have some basic instructions to tell people how to behave. A simple solution would be to have a sticker on the floor which is the waiting sticker and then a couple of stickers behind it to show people which direction to queue. Then whilst people are waiting outside to go in, have a video explaining it on a loop. Then have a few signs in different languages around reminding people. I had to say "there is a queue" and "please wait" and "don't push my child" and "it is not your turn" several times. I know as a nation we are the best at queuing but I am sure that other nationalities are not rude and it is just a lack of direction from the attraction.
It it the first attraction that I have been to where I do not want to return and couldn't wait for it to be over, purely due to the amount of people present and their behaviour. It is a shame because the actual exhibits (the ones we got to see) were very good.
We particularly enjoyed the Star Wars area as we are all fans of the film although again people were shoving in for example my daughter waited very patiently for a few people to go in the Millennium Falcon. It was then clearly her turn as she was in the only line of people waiting for it and she went and then as her brother went to go who was waiting behind her a lady ran to jump in front of him and I had to say she needed to wait until he had finished. This caused her to give me a very dirty look as she huffed and puffed, but this was not uncommon as we went round and not an isolated incident just to her!
We went as a family of four, late morning on a Monday. It is half term break for us but not for the rest of the country so I would say it is not peak time, but not...
