I’ve shared a few photos here from some of my most recent walks. You can really see just how different and stunning Mote Park looks at different times of the day. If you want to go when it’s quiet I strongly suggest visiting as early as possible (from 8am), because it is a very popular, and therefore busy park. There is a large play area for children of all ages, then there is a path that takes you around the whole lake itself. To walk around the lake the distance is around 2.5miles, so you get a good amount of exercise whether you’re running or walking. If you want to explore a little more of Mote Park and deviate from that path there are many other paths leading around the park. There are some beautiful sites around here, including the lake itself, some of the trees are hundreds of years old too and really tower above anything else. There are a couple of other entrances to Mote Park, one being in Willington Street. These entrances are often a lot quiet than the main entrance and helpful if you live that side of the park. Today, my family and I experienced the pedalo / paddle boats and they were brilliant. It cost £20 for the hour and we had the best time cycling around the lake. The birds that live around the area are brilliantly tame and come right up close to you. You can also fish here. There is night fishing available too, for those interested in that. Mote Park is very close to the rugby club, cricket club, scuba diving club and Maidstone Leisure centre, so it is possible to make a whole day out of visiting here if you were interested in any...

Mote Park, originally was a country estate and been converted into a public park in 1929. Its name comes from the old English word 'moot', meaning 'a place of assembly'.
We have been coming down here for years. Mote park has beautiful lake with swans and ducks, you can also rent a boat there, different routes for waking or running, mini railway for kids to enjoy the rides or you can just take dogs for a walk there.
Lots of benches to sit and enjoy the surroundings too!
Also, plenty of places to have picnic.
You can see there the historic Boathouse, which was built between 1836 - 1839, the Valunteers Pavilion, erected in 1801 by valunteers of Kent and playground for kids.
There are also cafe and decent size car parks. Up to 6 hours - £2. Over 6 hours- £12. Charges apply : Monday - Friday ( including Bank Holidays). Vehicles displaying a valid disabled persons budge can park there free of charge.
Public toilets available not far from car parks.
Soon, Mote Park will benefit from a fabulous new café with both indoor and outdoor seating and a new larger modern toilet building to support the many visitors to the park.
The new centre will include a 'changing places' room for people with limited physical capacity as well as a flexible space for learning and meetings which will be available all year round for local schools and community groups to hire.

Read moreVery large park situation in the heart of Maidstone with lots to offer. The vast children’s play park if worth travelling for as it has a lot of different options, including a park wheel chair accessible play area. The main entrance by the new cafe is the busiest area of the park by far. On a warm weekend especially, expect quite a few people, children, dogs and therefore noise.
The new cafe has a decent range of food options, including ice creams, sandwiches, toasties (can recommend these), jacket potatoes and a couple simple hot main meals. Inside the cafe is dog friendly too (if on leash). On bank holiday Mondays, the park has a ride on model steam railway located on the South side near the entrance from Ashford road, which is run by volunteers and costs a 50p per person donation. Great fun for children and train enthusiasts. The lake has Swan and rowing boats available to higher at peak times. There is also a climbing adventure and mini-golf available to book.
The park itself can be walked in various ways, is well maintained, with very little litter and lots of bins.
The car park can be paid with RingGo and costs £3 for 6 hours and has lots of spaces. On the busiest warmest day of the year you would have to use the overflow car park or wait a few minutes for a space. You can try to find free on street parking closer to the south side of the park but this will be a good 30 minute or so walk to...
