This place is great once you get in. Good sized main pool (beach style), toddler and play pool. Lazy river with outdoor pool, and fun slides. Never used the cafe as it never looks great and always overpriced. Onsite swimshop is well stocked, and overpriced.
Reason for the 1 star, trying to get in. If you’re not a Bluestone guest, it’s practically impossible to get in...unless you book days in advance. Trying to book for the same day is met with nearly100% failure rate. If you turn up, 99% of the time it’s full and told pre-bookings only. Trying to pre-book is a terrible experience. The website is poor as a first time visitor. Once into the externally hosted booking system, you get all the times set at half-hour intervals. Choose your date and time, then decide you’re happy to pay £45 for a family of two adults and two 4yr olds, then enter all your details and payment info on a clunky webpage. Upon processing was told that there were “not enough seats available” with only option being to start over. Tried this for all 6 times we could go and we’re all full. What sort of booking system tells you a date and time is available, then at the end tells you it’s not and you have to start all over again?!
Best option is to pre book days in advance, with running the risk of paying £45 to go to a primarily-based indoor activity on a day where the british weather may throw you a nice day where you could have been outside.
Have been there a few times by pre-booking, and seen other people turned away as they were full, but once inside the place was half full at best. Reason being they over reserve their “seats” for Bluestone guests. Logical and fair so can’t really argue with it as a non-guest, but frustrating.
Phoning also no good as their number gives automated opening times, directions and prices, and nothing else.
Changing rooms were great when this place first opened, but haven’t been well maintained since. Lots of broken lockers that swallow pound coins. Some electric ones that seem clever but don’t often open once shut. Cracked tiles on floors. Showers that shower passers by rather than you. Family changing cubicles all shapes and sizes, some fit 10 people, some struggle to fit 2.
For me, this place seems poorly run and cared about logistically, with focus on how much they can charge users. The staff on site are well trained and very pleasant, but don’t have any power if “computer says no”.
All in all, 1star is fair I think, given the whole BlueLagoon experience, but as they’re the only fun-pool for miles and miles, what choice do...
Read moreThis is a leisure pool rather than a competition pool, so if you want to swim lengths you're better off going somewhere else. On the other hand, if you want a fun wave pool, brilliant flumes including one that's mostly outside, hot tubs, toddler areas and a lazy river, this is definitely the place for you.
Generally speaking the changing areas are clean and well-maintained. Lockers are either managed with a £1 coin/trolley token or by a four-digit keypad for which you choose your own code. The latter system means there are no keys to carry around or lose. The showers could do with a little more pressure, but they're not bad and are at least a reasonable temperature.
The staff are friendly and helpful. The lifeguards keep a careful eye on what's happening in the pool and have CCTV to see what's happening with the flumes.
Other people have commented that it's necessary to pay to use the cafe. This is not strictly true. There is a poolside snack bar, but there is also a cafe upstairs that is separate from the pool area and can be accessed by everyone. It's not the cheapest of eateries, but about par for the course for tourist attractions. My family had a quick chocolate bar round about halfway through our session, and then had a more substantial meal afterwards.
On the subject of the three hour time limit: This is so that numbers are managed because they can only accommodate so many people in the pool at any one time. We find that three hours is ample time to play around in the pools and flumes and are willing to travel for two hours each way for...
Read moreVisited the Blue lagoon water park for the first time today. Open to the public as well as people holidaying on site. Very good family venue with Separate baby pool fenced in and gated. Good changing facilities with family cubicles, hair dryers and of course showers. Seating area for none swimmers. Waves, Slides, lazy river, Jacuzzi and a small pirate ship play area. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the over relaxed attitude of the life guards attending the slides. Though basic signs were up with information about why you shouldn't ride the slides (i.e pregnancy and health issues) these aren't always read especially by children. Two of the slides were blacked out which is a shock if your not expecting it and can lead to upset and anxiety. This should be stressed by staff before decent especially for children. Also I felt that usually on such a slide another parks around the country I've been too it's usually told to swimmers to lie back with arms crossed to avoid injury on such a smaller enclosed slide..my 8year old and I descended and with no warning of the darkness ensuing, I banged and cut my elbow and he banged his head as he was not told to lie back so he sat up. The staff didnt seem happy be there and didnt engage with swimmers going on the slides, just letting them down one by one. not a problem if better info is around the slide as opposed to online or elsewhere in the park?? maybe I...
