If you love parks then elmdon park is a must place to visit as it's great for any age from toddlers to oap's theres something for everyone. It's a very large park, I'd say around 3-4 square miles. At the bottom you have lots of grassy areas, a great children's play area that's fenced in so no worries about them wandering off and it has a great selection of things to go on. There's a car park at the bottom and the top of the park but if these are full you can park along elmdon park road that runs alongside the bottom part. Also at the bottom there is a double tennis court, free on a first come first serve basis and a couple of football pitches where some Sunday's theres local league matches played here, theres a nice lake with plenty of hungry ducks to feed including magnificent swans, geese and a lot of others. Theres is a large wooded area at the bottom also but the right hand side of the park is fenced off as this is the jaguar/landrover plant. Theres a few walks around the park but when you get up to the top theres the old church St Nicholas's which in the spring and summer months opens Sunday afternoons and they serve hot and cold drinks and home baked cakes and other goodies all at a very reasonable price. There is also a huge nature reserve at the very top which is like a lost world with all kinds of things nature to do. So whether its snowing and you want great hills for sledging or the suns blazing this is a park that really does have it all and imho a must for any park lovers or just a great place for a...
Read moreElmdon Park is amongst the largest in Solihull. It is by far the most historically significant park in the borough, possibly the West Midlands with evidence of human habitation since the Iron Age on through the Roman, Saxon, Norman, Tudor and Georgian periods. It has connections with a number of famous people including William Wilberforce and Edward the first and actions are ongoing to initiate a programme to restore the fabric of the Elmdon Walled garden. As the History Co-ordinator of the Elmdon Park Support Group I lead periodic Elmdon History Walks where you can have the opportunity to discover just how special and unique Elmdon is. Many new trees and wild flower beds have been planted this year and our group has initiated a plan to totally upgrade the children's playground. Check out the Elmdon Park Support Group on Facebook, Twitter and the web. Our new Website will be online...
Read morePlayground has a decent selection of things for children of all ages. Decking areas are available for viewing and feeding the ducks/geese/swans. Drainage is a bit of a problem most of the time at the side of the lake, so don't wear shoes that you don't want to get wet if you're interested in walking round the lake. Picnicking is popular in good weather due to the large expanses of grassland available. There's not much in the way of seating areas though, so a picnic blanket is a must if that is why you're going. A stream feeds into the lake at the top end of the park, and along the length of the park beyond the lake; children enjoy playing in the stream (wellies needed if you are doing this, obviously). Plenty of space for...
