Zengz — Restaurant in Metropolitan Borough of Solihull

Given the generally positive reviews of Zengz I was really looking forward to our meal here but unfortunately we experienced a few issues that slightly spoiled the evening. The temperature has dropped recently and so with it the temperature in the restaurant. Even though the wife had her back to a hot radiator it made little difference. The service was ok but a bit slow, to be fair it was a Saturday night but it was only around half full. Our young waiter was very pleasant but could have been a bit more knowledgeable of the specials on the menu. We passed on starters and enjoyed the poppadoms and dips and went straight into the mains. My Tawa was hot and spicy but also a slight bitter aftertaste, my wife made a similar comment regarding her dopiaza. The chicken in both was very good as were our sides dishes. Ordered a take away and had to wait over an hour after constantly being told it will be just 10 more minutes. Kitchen seemed to be in disarray Upon first inspection the curry tasted very nice and was enjoyed by all. However at 2am my wife started being violently ill. This continued throughout the night and all through the next day. It was diagnosed by 111 as food poisoning. It could only be caused by her curry as no-one else in our party was ill and we all had different mains. We were attending a show at the NEC and losing a vital member of our team not only cost us loss of orders but also she had to be taken home by family causing a 7 hour round trip. We absolutely love Zengz! Every time we have visited the food is always incredibly delicious, fresh and tasty. Not to mention the amazing selection of food on the menu. I'd recommend the Alphonso for anyone who enjoys a sweeter dish or the mixed Grill for those who love all the meat! We've sampled a few dishes from the starters and the mains and they're all excellent. My other half really enjoys the Jalandhari and the Masala. Poppadoms are always really crunchy as well, my personal favourite, plus they come with the best dips. The service is always spot on and all the team who work at Zengz are really friendly and helpful.
