The village of West Pentire leads down via lanes and tracks to the headland. In the fields near the headland are masses of red poppies and other wild flowers and grasses. There's a carpark where you pay to park up and enjoy the scenery. The headland is reached either over the top of the cliffs on grassy tracks or by going down to the small, sandy cove. Many dog walkers were there, possibly coming from Crantock beach as we did, or going for a walk along the cliff path. There were many signs about clearing up dog waste, which I totally agree with, but my one criticism is that there wasn't even one bin to put the waste in, or any other litter people may have had. Read moreThis headland was a spiritual haven, for me during my years of living and working in Newquay (Pentire Hotel, Bay Hotel and Berties and Ocean View nightclubs, at The Victoria Hotel). Many hundreds of nights, I would finish work at 02:00, get changed and walk to my secret spot, to sit and watch the night sky and the stars, if clouds allowed.
Today I am a disabled pensioner who cannot walk to the point, but rather sit in my car and remember those distant times.
A truly unique and magical place, where I always felt the spirits of others, were sitting beside me.

Read moreBeautiful coastal walk. Great fun clambering down over the rocks. We walked along the beach as the tide was going out. We finally managed to cross the river (Gannel) and walk up the estuary. We crossed on a tidal bridge, climbed the stairs and had a lovely latte in the cafe at the top.
If the tide is in too far for the bridge there is a ferry which charges a small fee to cross. The path closes at 6pm. The cafe closes at 7pm. Watch your pastries in the cafe! I saw a gul grab...
