Lovely location, lovely food, lovely restaurant, unfortunately let down by staff! We visited Lewinnick Lodge as a family when on holiday in the area. We took our 2 dogs and sat in the bar area which where our four legged friends are allowed. I called in advance and a lovely man on the phone advised that there are no reservations for the bar area but suggested the times when it is usually quieter and therefore had a better chance of getting a table. On arrival I spoke to a woman behind the bar to see if we had to wait to be seated, she looked straight through me. Literally ignored me even though we were face to face and turned around and walked away. Another lady behind the bar said to sit anywhere and turned away too. I walked over to the window seat where there was a table still filled with empty plates of previous diners. There was a sign on this table saying it was reserved (time written was 2 hours previous). There was a third member of staff stood at the bar, I asked if it would be ok if we could sit at this table as the lighting was great especially for my dad who has poor eyesight. She said it was reserved and began to walk away - after a few words she begrudgingly cleared the table. We had our meal which was really lovely. Although only had 2 drinks each throughout the 3 courses (not for the lack of trying) because the staff could not be bothered to take orders or make any drinks. We then waited, and waited, and waited with our empty plates in front of us for a member of staff to appear so we could ask for the bill. Such a shame that such a beautiful restaurant which has put so much thought into the menu and decor has staff with such a poor attitude.

My wife and I visited Cornwall for 12 days, each night staying in a different location. We weren't too sure what to expect when booking the Lewinnick lodge but didn't want to stay in the centre of Newquay as we have on previous trips. We were actually overwhelmed when we arrived here for our stay, and once we were shown to our room.....well, what could we say? The sea view was about breathtaking. We arrived at 11am and was planning on just leaving our car as check-in wasn't until 3pm however we were told our room was ready and could check in early. The hotel itself is absolutely spotless and looks to be relatively recently refurbished. The room was massive and absolutely amazing. It was, in fact, the best room that we had out of our 12-day trip. The car parking is free with ample spaces, which makes it easy to come and go if you require. We ate in the restaurant in the evening. The food was good but I would say that the breakfast the next morning was better, again probably the best out of our trip. The staff were all really friendly and helpful, especially the lady on the hotel reception. It is about a 30-minute walk to Newquay harbour from here, which to us was more of the appeal of this place as its set in its own location and very quiet around. I can't recommend this place enough and would definitely stay here again, but probably for more than 1 night next time. If you are planning on staying here, I would urge you to pay the extra for a sea view room. The views are outstanding, as you will see from the pics.

The restaurant is lovely and the staff were very nice and helpful. I had the board featuring camembert, apple chutney, and amazing focaccia bread, along with the boa buns...the pork was spiced quite nicely, a little dry but still delectable. The husband had the fish and chips, and he was pleased. Our daughter is so picky, and although I thought they had plenty of options for kids/picky eaters, she couldn't decide, so I ordered the chicken schnitzel plain (no sauces) and chunky chips. She loved it and said it was" quite nice". The views are amazing. We walked the Headland beforehand... strolling and taking photos for about 45 mins before dining. I highly recommend it. As for complaints about staff in previous reviews...it seems to be a busy restaurant (we went on a Wednesday night). I honestly only expect staff to check on us a few minutes after serving our food and to check for drink refills. If not, I simply wave them over. It's better than being interrupted constantly, and unfortunately, some people do expect the staff to attend them constantly, forgetting there are other patrons about. The food was fresh, tasty, and plentiful. The place was clean and not one rude staff member. We will be dining here again as we live nearby.

My friend and I went for dinner Tuesday March 29th 2022. She ordered Moules I ordered a Medium Rare steak with extra salad as I didn’t want the chips, I also ordered a Diet Coke. The Diet Coke came but I couldn’t drink it as the mix was to strong with the post mix syrup, then another waiter came with another coke so I now had two, a bit of a mix up in communication between the staff maybe ? I had bottled coke instead so all good.

My steak came complete with chips a tiny salad garnish ? I told the waiter I was sorry and not wanting to be a nuisance but I ordered extra salad and no chips please. My steak was then served with the extra salad, no chips, great. I cut into the steak which was brown and dry all the way through, Well Done and not Medium Rare, I’m cringing inside now because the price charged for a steak I really wanted to enjoy it so I felt compelled to send it back which I found embarrassing but I couldn’t eat it. What was more embarrassing was a tall dark haired lady who I was told was one of the managers came and stood at our table holding my plate of food that she’d taken from the waiter, and proceeded to stab her finger at my food asking what had I ordered. A Medium Rare streak I replied, she said this is Medium Rare, I replied I don’t think so however she stood there telling me I was wrong and said you want Rare don’t you ? I replied I just want a steak I can eat, fine said she but it will take a while now to do ?

After a long wait I got my very Rare ( Blue ) steak which was fine by me as I don’t mind a Blue Steak and ate the lot. I think the lady needs a course in Public Relations and front of house manners and not engaging in aggressive argumentative behaviour with the paying customers, she was disgusting, my friend couldn’t believe what this woman was doing, shocking behaviour. The whole experience was awful and as a local, Newquay is my home, I won’t be eating food at The Lewinnick again. It has amazing views the ambience is wonderful but the food and service is atrocious especially for the price and the lady manger is not an asset. I hate complaining but they got nothing right, right from the beginnings, very poor ? Also the group of young adults on the table next to ours couldn’t drink their coke either and left it and then left...

Expect great views but no privacy! Came with my family to see Cornwall and decided to stay at this hotel, big mistake! Sure, the view was amazing (we even saw seals) but the room itself was an atrocity.

Some idiot designed the room to have a fully open bathroom (picture attached) so if you were taking a bath or shower, you would easily be seen by whoever was in the room or bed. I was with my brother, so it was an awkward few days, as we couldn’t even change comfortably! Taking showers was even worse! The whole bathroom ended up wet (and slippery and unsafe) after a shower, as there was no glass! There was also no bin in the bathroom for some reason. But the craziest part of the room was the biodiversity of the flora and fauna found in the room! And by that, I mean BUGS! The whole room was infested by them. I have never before worried about bedbugs in a hotel, but here I was apprehensive about getting into the bed without a biohazard suit. If scientists wanted to study various bugs of Cornwall, this hotel would make for a great expedition site. I saw at least 30 bugs during my stay, including centipedes, flies, spiders, daddy long legs, mosquitoes, cockroaches and so much more. They were crawling all over the walls. Particularly “enjoyed” using the loo while watching silverfish sliver around the walls. We also were woken up for “room cleaning” before 9 am on a Sunday, which was very rude. The “cleaning” consisted of just tucking in the bed and taking out the trash, surfaces were not cleaned at all (obviously even large dead bugs on windowsill were not cleaned up for the whole 5 days we were there, I checked). Tea stains and spills everywhere in the room were ignored, everything felt sticky. Towels taken away and never given new ones, so one of us couldn’t even take a shower for the last couple of days. Didn’t even bother folding up the small hand towels, let alone replace them as a proper hotel would. Our room was very noisy as kids kept running above us on cafe deck and stomping early in the morning. Breakfast usually took ages to arrive and was very dry and overcooked. Overall, I would strongly advise you to avoid this repulsive and unsanitary hotel, unless you are a huge bug fan, in which case...

We usually love this place and visit all the time! But this time was particularly bad from the beginning to the end.. We obviously mentioned these points to the manager on shift and it was noted and we was discounted for a couple of bits.. We visited Sunday evening and we had got another booking for tonight (Thursday evening) but we have decided to cancel due to spending around £140 to have a bad experience, we don’t want to pay that and risk it twice in one week for our holiday! We are back in 3 weeks again and will give it another try and hope it’s got back to its usual standard.

First ordered a round of drinks, 3 out of 4 were wrong. Ordered my son a steak which I ordered medium/well and was very red and very fatty rather than meaty! My Sunday roast was cold. Puddings arrived, which we ordered the warm brownie with ice cream x2 aswell with other puddings. This is not now as described on the menu. It’s more like a cold torte slice of chocolate rather than cake brownie which was on the menu before. The final problem was the flys! Omg there was the big beefy flys around all the ceiling everywhere.. and then we had a rediculous amount of tiny midge flys constantly round us when we was eating.. They looked like the small flys that are created from plants when you water the compost And I presume from in the restaurant plants? They drove us insane! I ordered a glass of Prosecco by the glass which I realised was completely flat, as after that i ordered a bottle, I then could tell the difference.

Like I say, we usually love this place! The staff, the restaurant and the ambiance. But this time was our worst experience yet, and leaving this review in hope that when we return in 3 weeks, things will have been improved back to...
