The wonderful lake in the middle of the park is the main focal point and there are lots of different routes you can take around it for nice walks for couples and families. Definitely still worth the trip during the week.

However, unless you enjoy feeling like an unwelcome minority in your own country, I would recommend avoiding the park on weekends in summer, as it is absolutely swarming with Turkish people having barbecues and playing loud Turkish music from their car stereos. It's not just one group either, it's an entire village worth of very loud immigrants shouting everywhere, dancing to the pumping music and all with smoky barbecues. This is now the 3rd Sunday walk in as many months ruined by these people who have clearly no respect for the park or the local people who frequent it. The complete opposite of a peaceful walk by the lake.

Edit: Having been regularly when it's not hot weather, it's a beautiful place for the majority of the year. So I think 4 stars is now a fairer assessment. Would be 5 stars if they did something about the immigrants with barbecues and loud music over the...

This is a beautiful place; the views over the lakes are stunning; hard to believe it's so close to the city, as it's very peaceful. It's well catered in terms of paths which are pushchair, wheelchair or bike friendly, yet the woodlands are wild enough to please the kids who want to go exploring off-road. Dogs can be let off-lead throughout the park so long as they don't bother the waterfowl. There are almost no toilet facilities, and there's no visitor centre or the like, but since they would attract more visitors and detract from the serenity, then I think it's better not to have them. Bonus: free parking! Drawback: not enough bins; I've carried a dog poo around with me for 45...

What a great place for a walk. Plenty of wide paths and lots that have tarmac paths. I find if you get there before 7 am you have most of the park to yourself which is great if you're into wildlife photography. Around 9am it starts getting busy right up until dusk. Dogs are allowed even though when not on a lead they chase the ducks and do there business in the woods so some owners don't pick it up. Fishing is allowed day and night with a permit. The downside to the park is that they don't have a proper café with toilets which I think would benefit the park. Plenty of wildlife to see and a small park for the little one's. There are benches and picnic tables dotted...

Great park with two big lakes, woodlands and plenty open spaces to throw a ball for your dog or enjoy a picnic when the weather permits. In summer you can do wild swimming. There's also a couple of places where you can grab some food and a drink. I've knocked a point off as it's not as nice lately due to all the people living in vans and tents around the park. It wouldn't be an issue if they had a little more respect for the area. But they make fires on the grassed areas next to the river and leave bags of rubbish all over the place. They also use the park as a public toilet and fish illegally. The council should move them on if they can't have a little respect for the park.

A pleasant easy walk. Suitable for children, balance bikes and scooters. (although a bit muddy in places in wet weather) There is a small play park part of the way around, with toilets. Plenty of benches on the route. The scenery is nothing special and you don't see much of the lake for half the route. There are a couple of tree sculptures to spot. It took us 1.5 hours with 5 children in tow and a stop at the church ruins. There is a small information hut at the start. I believe they sell drinks and snacks but I didn't go in. Parking is a flat rate if £2.
