Vernon Park — Attraction in Nottingham

My review is purely for the tennis courts as that is the only facility I use at Vernon Park.

The positives are that the courts are well lit in the evenings and that they are right next to the car park so there really isn't that far to walk to and from your car. The nets always seem to be in relatively good condition as well.

The negatives unfortunately outweigh the positives...

The lock on the gate to the courts is constantly broken and, even if it does get "fixed", it's broken again within a week. Court 1 is pretty much unusable due to it's floor markings being a mess and that, during colder seasons, there is so much moss on the floor it becomes a health & safety hazard! The courts themselves are okay but are just basic concrete courts. Finally, there are certain parts of the court that, if you hit your ball out of it, you will not be able to get it back due to their being limited accessibility.

Was saddened to see this protected space which was given Fields in Trust status by Queen Elizabeth II in 2012 was nothing to be proud of to be honest. Was shocked to witness blatent drug dealing for the first time. Is nowhere sacred? Plus irresponsible dog owners not picking up after their pets. Why is this park not patrolled to try and prevent this? Also sad to see that for well over two years where there seems to have been a fire at a fishing/viewing point still not been refurbished for whatever reason in my opinion highly dangerous and unattractive for a beautiful space such as this which attracts a fair amount of varied wildlife. Nice park ,lovely trees, outside tennis courts and bowling club ,which is very rare now!! as in nottingham the council are no longer maintaining the upkeep of the old bowling clubs around the north of the city. Plenty have now gone. Vernon park could be miles better if litter bugs and dog owners!!!!! took more responsibility in keeping the park cleaner, especially on the great large grass areas. Not nice taking my grandchildren to play and stumbling across dog mess!!!!!!!!!!!! More bins needed for lazy locals Also the childrens play area needs to be updated, looks shabby.
