The Kilns private tour was a really intimate look into the life of C.S. Lewis. It was a very simple tour of the house, and took about an hour to complete. Our guide did a great job of helping us understand more of C.S. Lewis’ personality during his life, and was very kind and knowledgeable. C.S. Lewis (or Jack as he liked to be called!) truly was a sharp witted and extremely generous and kind man, as evidenced in much of the information shared on the tour. Booking: You have to send an email to book this tour, there is no website booking for the Kilns. Email them with plenty of time in advance - a month of more - just to ensure your spot. And once you have a spot, I suggest arriving an hour early and walking the Nature Reserve dedicated to Lewis - it is right next to The Kilns. And perhaps after the tour - about a 5 minute drive from the house is the chapel that C.S. Lewis attended for 30 years, as well as his and his brother’s grave, to pay your respects. Overall a very lovely tour and day, and I highly recommend for anyone who loves his books.

We toured the Kilns on a Tuesday at 2pm. You MUST email them to schedule a tour in advance. It is a private residence. Check the website for more info. You also must bring cash to pay for the tour. Our guide was AMAZING. We started in the library (an addition in the back) and got a little history of the building and heard some stories about the Lewis brothers. The original Eagle and Child pub sign is in this room. Then we went around to the front and went inside. We stopped in each room, common room, kitchen, bedrooms, study, dining room. We heard stories about Warnie and C.S. Lewis in each room from our guide. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. If you're a C.S. Lewis fan this is a must see spot!

This little park could be so much nicer. It is obvious that it was once a gorgeous place to wander and think, as C S Lewis apparently did. But now there is a lot of trash around, the trails are overgrown in areas, and not well marked. The pond was filthy and greasy looking, and quite polluted. All in all, it wasn't a terribly pleasant experience, but it could be absolutely amazing with some work.

Excellent tour. Lasted an hour and a half. The warden led us through different rooms while recounting Lewis’s life through stories and letters from biographies and memoirs, and pointing out the uses and restoration of each room. He also told us about the history and restoration of the house. Humorous, informative, professional, lots to learn — an excellent tour and well worth the £15 ticket.

A great little walk, bigger than we thought, but still a nice short walk. It was a little muddy when we went (February) so we just about got away with shoes. As buggy is a no go unless you just want to have a quick look at the pond/lake as the other parts of the path are quite steep and there are steps along the way around.

This was an amazing tour that definitely shouldn’t be missed. Paul did an excellent job with out tour. He was so knowledgeable, friendly and you could see how interested he was in C.S. Lewis. This tour must be prearranged and is well worth the price. Don’t miss the nature preserve and a visit to the church down the road.
