Penllergare woods is a brilliant place for a walk any time of year. Be it by yourself or with family, friends or man's best friend. There are plenty of routes to take but if your taking a dog please bare in mind the Adders in summer months and other wild life.
There is a fairly new Coffee shop/ Park information building with toilets that has popped up. With a lively view of the garden area, it's a great place to watch nature play. Squirrels often come back and forth along with different birds fluttering past. There's a beautiful little waterfall which has a deep enough pool area for people to jump off into. But at your own risk of course.
There's so many bits to explore and several different entry routes so you can return again and again exploring different parts.
I highly recommend some old shoes as you can go off the beaten track and explore the path of the water round to a lovely bamboo area.
There's plenty of space to park up and Lazzets is the perfect place to fuel up after a lovely walk or even before hand. (Check opening times as they are under a refurbishment) Stunning food...

The forest walks are wonderfully scenic, winding through lush greenery and leading to surprises at every turn—whether it's a charming footbridge or a quiet meadow perfect for a pause. The waterfall, in particular, is a magical highlight. It feels like something out of a storybook, and the sound of the water only enhances the sense of tranquility.

Read moreAlways beautiful at any time of year. A wooded valley stretching from Cadle mill over to Penllegaer. Lots of paths to explore. Wellies or walking boots advisable. Cafe and toilets at the Penllegaer end. Keep a close eye on children, there is plenty of deep, fast following water and steep drops. Paths are maintained to a good standard, but fencing is being renewed in places and is currently missing. It is maintained by volunteers, so why not join them instead of complaining? As per usual some of the dog walkers let the city down. There is usually ample dogs mess either on the paths, flicked to the side or hung from trees in little plastic bags (why dog owners? Why? - just take it away with you and put it in the trash). I'm not knocking a star off for the dogs mess - the woods is well worth a visit and dog owners need to show some consideration for everyone else who enjoys visiting this...
