A Former Cement quarry abandoned in the early 1900's. After the process of pumping water out of the site became uneconomical, the deep excavation flooded creating a large pond. The water from the pond was from time to time used to top up the nearby Oxford Canal in droughts. For many years the area even though quite dangerous with all the inherent risks of deep quarries has given the townsfolk a source of sport and general entertainment, fishing, swimming, pic-nics and walking through it's wooded areas were all popular pastimes.. The pond is Stocked with a variety of fish Species including Carp, Tench, Perch as well as some quite Large specimens of Pike.. Crayfish can also be spotted in the shallower areas of the pool. Not without it's tragedies, sadly there has been loss of human life in the quarry. In the 1990's a lot of work was done including the filling in of some areas and the creation of proper pathways, viewing platforms, pic-nic sites and fishing points were created around the perimeter of the pond. And Newbold Quarry Park was created... The area was enjoyed by many...

In 2019-2020 the Council the romoved the pic-nic areas, benches and litter bins. Much to the dismay of Anglers and those who'd enjoyed the park with their families over the years, A PSPO(public spaces protection order) was imposed on the site and the parks status was changed to a Nature Reserve..
It's still a nice place to visit although Fishing is no longer allowed without express permission from the council. Dogs must be kept on a lead and must not enter the water..
Stay safe and enjoy...

I would never go again and I certainly would not recommend it for a lone female with or...
