Completely beautiful, ancient wood. Covered with mosses and lichens. Silent and atmospheric. The amenities are amazing-nice sculptures, one of the best adventure playgrounds, picnic areas and rockeries are all near the car park, and as you go further in, the only signs of humanity are the well-signposted, nicely surfaced, even paths. The routes are colour-coded and easy to work out. My one bugbear as a mum of small children is the dog mess everywhere. Even when dog owners Puck it up, for some reason they leave it around in little bags as if they were leaving the rest of us a treasured gift. Honestly it's hard to see such a beautiful place made dangerous for curious kids. So saying, I'll return because it's beautiful but heartbreakingly I'll have to watch the babbies like a hawk and carry tonnes of dettol and wetwipes. Shame on you dog...
Β Β Β Read moreWhat a great place for walking! We stumbled upon this place as we drove past and we were really glad we stopped. We have 2 Springer spaniels who love running around in the forest. Its really lovely with great paths throughout. The different walks are clearly marked and there's an information board in the car park with the routes on there. We did the yellow walk which was described as strenuous and would take about 1 hour. We didnt find it that strenuous but the scenery was breathtaking so we took our time and just enjoyed being in the forest with the dogs. If i had any criticism it would be a total lack of bins around the site, not even one in the car park. We always clean up after our dogs and are happy to take it away with us until we get to a bin but bins on site would be handy. Highly recommend a visit to...
Β Β Β Read moreArrived today with my wife and two dogs. One dog is 13 and has arthritis so we have a dog buggy for her. There are different routes you can take, some easy and some hard. We decided to go from the car park to the lake where there is a picnic table . Very pretty. We were going to go all the way around the lake but it was too rough for the dog pram. We then backtracked but then took a left and ended up doing a loop and ended up back in the car park. Very nice walk and easy underfoot if you take the right route. There is a car park which you need to download the Ringo app and pay the parking fee. A local told us to donβt bother paying as they never checked ( thatβs what we did) or drive out the car park, turn right and right again and park on the road going into Dalbeattie which is totally free and whatβs...
