This is really a little bit of a hidden gem in Ellon (only recently opened to the public in 2019), only a very short walk from nearest busstopp with good connections from Aberdeen.
Gardens are fairly large and secluded behind a garden wall. The blossoming flowers gives the gardens a nice aroma and birdsong from the trees it's really nice.
Highly recommend a visit for a nice picnick or just to get away from the hustle.
At time of the visit there where not many around, so really enjoyed the piece and quiet.
The castle is now a ruin, though attractive where it overarches the gardens.
Gardens are kept by volunteers, who have extensive knowledge of the castles long history.
