Portsoy Harbour is untouched by intrusive developments. There are in fact two harbours which reflect the stages in development of the fishing industry as it changed, and the herrings came and then sadly went. All this (and the fascinating local geology) is well explained in a small volunteer-staffed museum lodged in one of the old fish processing buildings. The atmosphere of Portsoy and its harbours on a merciless, exposed rocky coast remind the visitor how much courage, skill and good fortune was required of fishermen - above all in the...

We were just passing through but decided to go down to the harbour for s look around , it is a really nice little town , very clean and tidy and the locals were friendly and polite , nice cafe down by the harbour but it was full so sadly couldnt get a coffee , a great view from the harbour but it was raining so we didnt stay to long , overall a very nice...

We were just passing through but decided to go down to the harbour for s look around , it is a really nice little town , very clean and tidy and the locals were friendly and polite , nice cafe down by the harbour but it was full so sadly couldnt get a coffee , a great view from the harbour but it was raining so we didnt stay to long , overall a very nice place to visit

A picturesque little harbour. Lots of history from 1690s , when the exported marble from here smuggled brandy and wine through to 19th century herring fishing. More in the present, gift shops and galleries and occassional use for film and TV location.
