Glasgow's Govan Old Parish Church is home to an amazing group of early medieval cut stones known as the Govan Stones. From the 9th century to the 11th century AD, this place is full of fascinating history. The beautiful Govan Sarcophagus is one of the stones. People believe it honors St. Constantine, the son of the Pictish king Kenneth MacAlpin. The detailed designs on these stones, which show everything from hunting scenes to stylized animals, are stunning.

Excellent and underrated! Scott was a spectacular guide and went to great efforts to bring to life the fascinating history of the Govan stones, local history such as the Viking presence, etc. This was one of the BEST things we did during our recent visit to Glasgow and indeed all Scotland. Highly recommend it, and it was FREE, but please do support them with a donation in the cash box and gift shop, as the upkeep of this site is a worthy cause.

An absolutely fascinating place to visit. We were able to have a tour round the church with an excellent guide. He was knowledgeable and interesting, we would have had fun without the guide, but it was so much better having someone explain and expand on the information boards. He covered aspects of the Church, the Stones and Govan itself. Very easy to reach and find on the Subway, as well as driving.

I am so glad that I visited to see the Govan stones. I was astonished by the history of the stones (and other artifacts)/churchyard, impressed by the passion of the people who work there, and thankful that they were willing to share their passion with me. This is a must visit in Glasgow for anyone interested in history. I can’t recommend it enough.

So much history in such a small area. Don't overlook this wee gem of a place if you're visiting Glasgow, even if you're local you'll get something out of a visit! I have visited the site several times since my initial review, the most recent being after the discovery of the 'Govan Warrior' stone was found on site. Brilliant.

A rare cultural gem in Glasgow. However, it is under-known. I knew the magnificent Tom Davidson Kelly, the quondam minister, 2 decades ago. He tried to promote it, but didn't truly succeed. It has the oldest relics in Glasgow. Celtic, Brythonic and Viking stones. Every Glaswegian should visit.
