Ground work staff at entrance working on overflow carpark with a small, uncontrolled dog running around the carpark. Car parking now limited to 2 hours and monitored bt cameras. By the time you have parked, walked to the ticket machine, queued, input details, returned to car, sorted children and put on wellies, 15 minutes of the 2 hours have passed. Appreciate there is an issue with college students parking here, however, penalising Park visitors is not the best way to deal with the issue. 2 hours reduces the park to a brief dog walking park, as opposed go a park you can spend the day at and enjoy a picnic in warmer weather. College students still park here, albeit for short periods, so the issue hasn't been resolved. On our previous visit, a car full of college students were highly amused when then reversed into myself and my young children. The solution to the college student issue would be to provide parking spaces elsewhere for college students. Recent work adding paths over previously grassy areas improve accessibility however the pathways have been full of mud for months now. The road through the park seems busier than previously. There is a 10mph limit in place but this is not monitored and cars career past busy footpaths where dogs and children are running around. Children's play area is large however, large groups of teenagers from the local college congregate here, playing on equipment designed for children, sitting at benches within the play area and swearing loudly with little regard for young children playing. Toilets are 20p and quite grim. The wall garden closed during covid and we have yet to see it open. The maze is pleasant. The new cafe is nice but seating is limited. Dogs and dog mess everywhere throughout woods and off the main path ways. Very...
Read moreAbsolutely adore this place. So much to explore and keep you busy on a day out. Credit to the grounds crew for keeping it well kept and play areas in great working order. First off there's a big carpark and room for coaches too. The green park area is vast, ideal for running with a ⚽ or Frisbee, flying a kite etc. Or maybe just relaxing in the ☀ sunshine with a good book and picnic. There are toilets and a well stocked kiosk near by. To the right upon entry a short stroll you can go to the pond area with wooden board walk. Just next door to this is the play park area. One of the best parks I've come across in 🇬🇧 UK. Adults try out the weighted seesaw haha. Has a sandpit and sensory area. Wheelchair ♿ access too. Toilet here too and plenty of benches to sit. The other side of park is mini train line, open weekends only. Further on you'll find a tea room, reasonably priced, next door are the art and craft stable shops selling local artist works again mainly only open weekends/holidays. The walled garden is just over from that, delightful area and sells plants cheap to buy too. A little stroll on you'll find a fantastic tree maze. It really keeps LO's and adults alike entertained trying to find the middle. Bonus there is quick escape gates from the middle to exit, don't cheat and use these as it's fun trying to find correct way and there several deadends lol. Everything is signposted to help guide you around this vast park. Hope this...
