Had a mooch about in the rock pools with the misses and the dog, saw some little creatures and generally enjoyed the peaceful quiet beach. It's a mic of pebble, sand and big rocks which makes it very interesting but a little risky if you have kids I'd say. There are loads of great restaurants, pubs, and places for good food in historic Charlestown, so you won't be disappointed. Rebellion is amazing and next time we're down we'll be going to the seafood restaurant and to the pub that's being g renovated after the unfortunate fire. The best feature about Charlestown is the canal lock harbor for the boats, very good photo opportunities here, but again be careful if you have young toddlers or kids sprinting about as when the tide is out there are 20+ foot drops of the end of the sea walls with no barriers at the most southern end!

Have visited many times here it’s a nice little beach/harbour area it’s not somewhere you would choose to swim due to it being so rocky and the beach is only small but it is lovely to spend some time go for a little walk. You can park along the road or car parks which charge. There is often historic ships in the dock unfortunately we didn’t get to see the ‘pirate ships’ which was the carrot to get the kids to go… they liked seeing cannons and old barrels and the short walk. It’s lovely feels like a step back in time… it’s not your sandy day at the beach beach as long as your aware and your expectations are aligned then it’s great. Lots of bars, eateries and galleries plus a museum here so chance to learn a few things and educate yourself…

What a hidden gem, I dropped my family off at the Eden project whilst I had some me time fishing off the harbour. As I walked down a slight hill I could have sworn I had been there before which was really confusing as I was 100% sure I hadn't and after mentioning it a local he told me that it had been in quite a few movies like the eagles have landed, Taboo and Dr who amazing what you actually take in whilst watching thes programs. Well worth a visit, plenty of bass off the harbour wall as the tide is coming in using peelers.

Probably the most unkept harbour in Cornwall Driving into Charlestown from St Austell or via Duporth one is greeted with large aggressive potholes, approach the harbour and you are welcomed with a roundabout with two foot grass and weeds, the grass area adjacent to tail ships creamery is much the same, grass not be cut for several years, the old boat here has been removed, due to not being maintained, the pirate statue that once stood on the harbour was removed last year, the railings on the harbour sides are rusty and buckled and in need of repair and a lick of paint, weeds of several feet high grow just about everywhere possible. The left side of the harbour the road here is deep in potholes. They say its to keep the heritage status, I wasn’t aware food huts and takeaway are part of heritage. The truth is it’s about making big profits with no expenditure, all this place needs is a little hard graft and...
