Reddish Vale Country Park is a popular destination for all the family. I spent a lot of my childhood there. Today we visited the pond with the wooden walkway, I'm not sure of the name of tgis pond. There is a bench there dedicated to Eric Haydock, bass guitarist from The Hollies. He loved the tranquility of this area and was a visit most days. We met him on a few occasions and he was alsways up for a good story! After taking a walk through the woods and by the river, we returnes to the car park near the visitors centre. During tjis walk, we were entertained by several squirrels and birds along the way. Apart from the occasional train and plane, all the sounds were natural, not human madw. Just the babbling of the river and the song of birds. There are a couple of picnic areas near to the visitor centre. Although the visitors centre is currently closed due to COVID, there is a van swlling snacks and drinks run by Sarah. The prices are very reasonable and the quality is excellent! After that, we bought some bird food and fed the ducks, geese and swans on the main pond. We passed several people during our walk, some with dogs, some on their own and some with small children. Not only was everyone having a good time, everyone was also very friendly too! Just about everyone said hello and some stopped for a bit of a chat. We did notice that there were a couple of turtles in both ponds! We didn't expect to see them there so it was a bit of a surprise! I can highly recommend Reddish Vale Country Park. Most areas are fairly easily accessible to disabled people and there are a couple of designated parking bays. The loos are open...
Read moreOK, better suited for a brighter day but don't let that put you off visiting. The tracks when we went were muddy, me being me wore trainers, black and white, when I came out they were brown lol and can we all guess who said to me grinning from ear to ear ' I told you to put your wellies on'....... that's right the wife. There are some good trails to walk around with some pleasent woodland views. The river tame runs along some if the track and its majestic seeing the flow and how strong it can be in sections of it. There is, for summery days more than anything a circular Butterfly track to roam, near the car park, which I will add is also free to use. Unsure if its static but there is a small pop up van coffee shop at the entrance, drink are around £2 upwards to warm you on colder days, just please dispose of cups sensibly, and toilets are at the main entrance also. Getting to the place has a narrow road leading up to it, past the farm, easy to navigate but if not park on the main road before it tells you it's a dead end your leading yourself to. Signs clearly visible on the left. Have a great day feeding the ducks In the lakes and perhaps consider a picnic on better...
