If you're a photographer, this is a GREAT place to do some cityscape images. The views of Salford to the left, Manchester right ahead and right across to the hills and mountains in the distance over to the right will blow you away!. More photos on my instagram. com / chrismichaeluk

Probably the best country park in this region with a really stunning view, and spacious enough for picnics and dog walking. Free parking and entrance 24 hours a day (I supposed). Better go there during less busy hours.

Free parking enough for 20 cars. Small memorial garden here and a well kept flower bed. From the car park there are great walks to be had with incredible views of the area and over most of Manchester.

Nice walk to the cenotaph. You can do a loop back to the car park which makes it less boring for the kids. Lots of dog walkers here. Sometimes there are cattle grazing.

On a clear day the views are great. If you don't mind a longer walk you can walk down over the back and drop down into Etherow park. Again a lovely walk to the mere and duck pond.

On November 5th the place gets very busy with cars as there are great views of the surrounding firework displays.

After the walk you can have a great pub meal at the Hare & Hounds. Nice food at reasonable price.

If flying kites is your thing then Werneth Lowe is a good spot. Often windy but also wet.

The site is used by running groups at times to. The hilly nature and greenery make for a picturesque and challenging run.

Parking at the centre can be tight. If you continue up the road and turn left at the top there is more parking. This is not tarmac and can be muddy. There is also further parking along the tops in the form of lay-bys next to the golf course.

Take a picnic in the summer and you'll have a lovely day out.....promise? Any other time of year dress warmly and for rain. This is...

I'm giving this place full stars! This visitors centre is staffed by volunteers, my friends mum, Dorothy, who has worked here for absolute donkeys years still turns up for work at weekend and will greet you with a smile every time. Everyone comes here because they want to and enjoy it, and it shows!

We came up last for the Easter egg hunt, one of the volunteers hid cut out paper Easter eggs all around the cenotaph, the children swapped them for a creme egg when they got back to the visitors centre. They didn't realise the children had clocked the volunteer and were cautiously following him round to see where...

Ok for a walk with the dog but full of unleashed irresponsible dog owners who seem to think it's ok to let them run upto leashed dogs and complain when they get bitten.

Unless in a designated area all dogs should be leashed.

Use an extended lead for more freedom but be sure it's strong enough for your size of dog.

Too many penny millionaires up there who think their way in the only right way to behave.

Enjoy your walk but keep a look...
