Last night we went to The Hare & Hounds for Burns night 🏴🥃 I haven't been there in so long and didn't expect much to be honest. I was so wrong! The 4 course Burns meal was exceptional 👌 They had ran out of Venison, which was the 3rd course option and allowed us to pick anything off the main menu 🥰 We had for starters, crispy pheasant with hot honey and crab and avocado salad. The pheasant was exceptional, the flavours in both starters was amazing. Our 2nd course was the beautiful haggis, neeps and tatties 👏 Absolutely a flavour sensation. Chef cooked the haggis to perfection and he offered a vegan option 👏 The mains 😋 We went for sea bass with seared scallops. We were in heaven, cooked to perfection and simply delicous. Desserts, Cranachan Sunday and it was the only let down of the full meal. We let it go as we tucked onto my chocolate torte and ice cream and were so stuffed at this point 🥰 I also ordered the whiskey and ginger and Glenfiddick buck as my bestie loves a good whiskey. All I can say, I ordered her more and she loved them 🥃🏴 I asked our lovely servers, who were awsome by the way. To send on our compliment to the chef and wanted to buy him a drink as appreciated his food so much. All both 👨🍳 wanted was an honest review, and here it is 🙌❤️ I will certainly be booking again for the main menu very soon. I didn't even get lots of food pics as we just really enjoyed the experience of eating great food on Burns night 🏴🥃

It was a meal to celebrate my daughters graduation and so she chose the venue. Cannot fault the location it’s high up on Werner Low with view for miles. People go up there to watch the sunsets. The table had an ‘I’m clean’ stand on but was sticky from previous guests. Staff seemed friendly but the food was not what we expected at all. That being in a negative way. Two of us had starters that were mushrooms on a sourdough crumpet- I swear it tasted like some Mushrooms in a minimal sauce on a raw standard crumpet. I’ve never eat a raw crumpet and never will after this. Crumpets should have some toasting to them. My wife had the Sea base and the skin was not crisped at all and was greasy and slimy- she took the skin off and ate the rest. My daughter had the vegan burger which she left half as is was all dry and crumbled as she tried to eat it. I didn’t have my dessert but two in our party did, one of the party asked for extra custard cans were given one small jug of custard with a small amount of lukewarm custard in and a large gravy boat with COLD custard in, It completely baffled us as to why they would serve cold custard. I wouldn’t return there again for food but maybe that area with the dogs because of its beautiful location.

Asked for homemade beef burger and skinned chips, burger was tasty but the skinned chips were of the frozen variety with no skin on, I asked the waitress about them, she was very pleasant but just replied that's is what we've got either those or the other type, so I asked if I could have the other type, (which apparently were supposed to be triple cooked chips) the other chips were bought to the table within a couple of minutes 👍but they again were of the frozen variety whinchat you can buy in any cheap frozen foods shop, my wife ordered gammon with mushy peas rather than garden peas, they came in a little white ceramic bowl which was all well presented but they must have been just tipped out of a tin as they were ice cold, the waitress apologised and quickly took them away and stuck them in the microwave, The glasses on the table were full of finger prints, so we ended up with a coffee and a coke, all in all a very disappointing experience, the staff were very friendly, I've been going here on and off for 20yrs, don't think I'll be eating there again

OK this is a large place. Very busy therefore quite a wait which you don't mind if the food is worth it. Don't get me wrong it was quite alright but not worth the high price for pub fayre. Drinks very expensive I.e a bottle of fruit cider £5.20. My meal was forgotten out of 9 of us. However this was, quickly rectified once made aware of this. This place has lots of knooks and crannies so you can be as open or snuggly hidden away as you want. I believe this is a good stop over for lunch in summer as they have some spectacular views and large outdoor seating area. We had two disabled people in our party and was dissapoimeted to find that the disabled parking bays had been replaced with tables. I did note a dog station so for walkers out with your pets you would be welcome here. I would ask that more thought is given to the disabled parking places please as this is not a small car park and greater some difficulty for two of the guests. I would go back giving the benefit of doubt that it was just a bad day because we all have them.

The location is stunning, lovely decorated, perfect to enjoy a meal. The service was not the best though: we waited a while to be seated because there was no one at the desk when we came in. When the manager showed us the table, she informed us that there were no vegetables left (other than carrots and peas) and also some of the day’s specials were gone. This was a surprising info considering that it’s a well known place and it’s Sunday and there is a booking system, so I suppose you can roughly plan you’ll need more food supplies. Katie was our waitress and she was kind, smiley and welcoming. We ordered a starter and 2 Sunday roasts. We waited 25’ for the starters and, once finished, more than 40’ for the mains, which arrived only after we asked for updates (this means that we sat at the table at 5 and ate our mains at 6.15). The food was absolutely delicious but we were quite disappointed by the size of the 2 roasts: 14.30£ each and 45’ waiting were not worthy. If you want to go, don’t visit on a Sunday afternoon.

Went here for a roast, we were looking forward to it so much. The dining area was up a step and despite having disabled entry, the team seemed shocked as if the step is never usually a problem. We were seated in the bar area since access to the restaurant was not possible. They were out of beef serloin, which happens, so we had beef rib. Despite being slow cooked, the meat was somehow dry, and I just got the impression that everything on the plate had be sat around for hours. The potatoes were dry, and not crispy, they had eyes in too. There was no taste of rosemary as the menu described (and no trace of it either), there was also no way the single carrot and single parsnip were cooked in honey as advertised on the menu. I will share an image rather than giving my opinion of the Yorkshire pudding. A whole new level of dissatisfaction Most definitely not worth the £16/£17 price. Might be a fine pub if you're not in a wheelchair, and not wanting a roast. But if that's what you're after, I wouldn't bother.
