When we arrived, our table wasn’t ready and we had to wait in the bar. After finally sitting down, we asked to see an allergens menu which they couldn’t provide. The member of our party who had an allergy then told the waitress his allergies and she went away to speak to the chefs and came back saying that they couldn’t cater for him at all. We then asked if he could go off the bar menu as was unable to eat off the Mother’s Day menu. They said no because only people in the bar (2m away) were able to go off this menu. The staff then tried to blame ourselves for this saying that we should’ve said at the time of booking. We go out to eat at least once a week and we have never had this issue and if they have issues with catering for allergies surely they should’ve asked me if anyone had any allergies on the phone when I called to make a reservation. Since it was Mother’s Day and everywhere would be fully booked we had no choice but to stay and the member with allergies had to sit and watch us eat! Apparently even chips had allergens in? Whilst we were there a number of glasses piled up on the table and when we asked them to remove the glasses they didn’t. The lady on the table next to us also got ketchup thrown all over her by a clumsy waitress who promised it wasn’t on the lady’s jacket (which it was). The service was incredibly slow also. We sat down at about 2:15 and didn’t leave til around 5pm. At about half 3 there was another family who came in to get there table and they didn’t get seated until well after 4pm. When we asked for our bill, they had charged us or 6 adults instead of 5 and a child! I wonder how many people they’ve tried this with and got away with! Such a shame bc I was looking forward to trying a few things on their menu at a later date but 100% will not be returning. Absolutely dreadful. Couldn’t have asked for a worse...
Read moreI am a local resident of Gee Cross and have been drinking in this pub as a regular for the last few years. It used to be a lovely, well run pub with nice clientele. However, over the last six months or so there has been a massive change, with a lot of local residents choosing to avoid this establishment.
The landlord is more concerned with profits, than the well being of local residents and customers, maybe he should stick to barbering than running a pub. He lets in a lot of customers who are barred from other local pubs in the village, unconcerned about the trouble they may cause. He also turns a blind eye to the obvious drug dealing/taking in these premises.
The last few times I have been in this pub, there has been fights breaking out, with no door staff on to intervene. Only this Friday as one fight erupted at the rear, other fights started to break out, resulting in one person being randomly head butted and knocked out completely. The only person who seemed to do anything about it was the barman, Gregg, who stopped the fight.
As a concerned resident of Gee Cross village, I will no longer be drinking in here, and will also be making complaints to licensing authorities.
I would like to point out that this in no way is a review of the restaurant, which has always been superb, but this is a...
Read morePitched up for dinner on Christmas Day. First off, the music, which should accompany the conversation, was far too loud, to the point that we were shouting at each other to be heard when we arrived, which doesn't make for a great welcome. This situation did improve as we were seated away from the overbearing festive songs. The service was good, being friendly, helpful and accommodating. Robinson's Dark was a nice pint. Plenty of flavour without the 'weight' of Guinness. All three courses were fine, all perfectly edible and tasty. My biggest gripe at this time of the year is the inflated prices. Being generous, outside the festive season, three courses would set you back £40. It's Christmas with additional wage overheads, so call it £60. So, £75 a head feels over the top for a three course roast dinner. But then, another local restaurant wanted over £80, so you pays your money and you take your choice. Bottom line: Good service, reliable food, too loud and overly expensive for what it is, so...
