Stunning place, well worth a visit. Particularly magical at Christmas time. This wasn't our first visit as we like to visit at different times of the year. The knitted blossom installation is lovely and really brightens the place up. There's always something new to see, and most of the volunteers are just lovely and friendly, willing to chat and share their knowledge of a beautiful place. I'm not too sure about the large bag policy that has been introduced - there is signage asking to leave large bags in cars and there is apparently a locker room to store large bags rather than walk around the main building with them. Perfectly reasonable for backpacks / picnic holdalls, etc, and would imagine this would make it much easier for people to leave their hefty bags whilst they explore the manor house. However, we felt 'accosted' as we entered, and a volunteer suggested we use the lockers for our large bags as per new policy. We politely enquired what the new policy was as we'd not been approached on other visits. Volunteer tried to explain that because they have so many items on display that could be knocked over by large bags /rucksacks, they have introduced this. We politely declined. Volunteer went on to say that it was a polite request and that another reason they had this policy was because people had been stealing from the collection! I informed the volunteer I would be happy for them to search my bag and that I wasn't planning on stealing anything!!!! She continued to 'explain' this policy, and we again declined and continued to explore the house, taking care not to knock anything over with our handbags and ensuring we didn't steal any items!!! We also noted that other guests had much larger bags / changing bags and didn't hear several guests that followed us in being accosted to leave their bags in a locker room, nor was there mention of people stealing items. In fact, the same volunteer was very pleasant and welcoming to the other guests who followed us. Can't help but feel a bit miffed about that experience. Having said this... It hasn't put us off. The place is wonderful, and all the other volunteers we encountered were very friendly and welcoming.

Whightwick Manor - A Hidden Gem! I can not speak highly enough of my recent visit to Wightwick Manor. This stunning estate is an absolute treasure, seamlessly blending history, beauty, and accessibility. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the Manor House itself. The period furniture and decor transport you back in time, offering a glimpse into a bygone era. The attention to detail is impeccable. But what truly sets Wightwick Manor apart is its commitment to inclusivity. The wheelchair access is fantastic, allowing everyone to enjoy this remarkable place. The staff were exceptional - knowledgeable, friendly, and always willing to go the extra mile. Their enthusiasm was contagious, making the entire experience even more enjoyable. The gardens are a masterpiece, meticulously maintained, and offering a peaceful retreat. I was particularly impressed by the accessible routes throughout the grounds, including the orchard. The cafe provided a delightful respite with delicious refreshments, and the convenience of on-site toilets was greatly appreciated. The gallery in the malt house and the secondhand bookshop added extra dimensions to the visit. I was humbled to be able to explore such a prestigious estate, steeped in Wolverhampton's history. Wightwick Manor is a must-visit for anyone seeking a truly unforgettable experience. Thank you to the staff for creating such a welcoming and inclusive environment. I wholeheartedly recommend this extraordinary place.

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. The Manor is beautiful and very well preserved from outside and inside. Indeed the National Trust really cares about its properties well. I was so shocked right after entering to the building how beautifully presented it is. The whole interior looked like the owners just left. Beautifully well looked after. The volunteers are very friendly and know their house pretty well. The stories they learned are very nicely told to the audience. Unfortunately during the winters the first floor is closed so there is no chance to see what is upstairs, but I have been told it will be open from March. Part of the Manor is a separate house in which is the Gallery containing fine art that includes paintings and beautifully preserved tiles. I must say that I was very pleased with visiting this place and confidently can recommend the visit. Definitively the best time is when is not raining, so you can enjoy the Gardens, as the area is very nice with possibility to have a picnic out there. Next advice is - go on weekday, as weekends are usually too busy. And that's all from me. I will try to add some photos I have made while visiting. Thank you for reading my review.

Well i must start with an apology for underestimating Wightwick Manor and all it has to offer. I thought this would be a 'nice place' to spend a couple of hours on our way to a 2 night hotel stay... we stayed 4.5 hrs!! Such an interesting homely place to visit and far bigger than i gave it credit for. I could have sat down with a book and made myself at home in most of the rooms... it just has that feel to it. The guides were fascinating, engaging and enthusiastic, one of them playing the piano in the Great Parlour, very atmospheric. Claire was great and very personable. There is so much to see and take in. I'm not heavily appreciative of art but even with my ignorance i felt compelled to stop and take time to absorb as much as there was to see. The gallery is a must. The tea room makes for a nice place to stop for refreshments and the gardens from what we saw on a wet day would have been lovely on a dry day to appreciate more (although that may have meant another hour or more visit time) In summary, a great place to visit but allow plenty of time, a heaven for the arts and crafts and art lovers amongst you, a large house but with that cosy homely feel. Can't wait to visit again.

Wightwick Manor was not too busy on the afternoon we visited. The slope from the car park was easily negotiated to a good view of the front of the house with access to the lower front lawn if required. There is a flight of steps between the lower lawn and the house, but access to the top front lawn/house frontage is available from further along the side of the house near the main entrance to the manor house itself. As always we were made welcome and as we had a young visitor with us, I was pleased that the guides were thoughtful, friendly and approachable toward children. Everything was immaculate and the French grand piano especially drew our group’s attention. Ice creams were then the next requirement and enjoyed by all. Clean, tidy toilets, well signposted, were adjacent to the cafe as part of the same building. After touring the house our young visitor wanted to see the Play Area which was marked on the map. However, the actual Play Area itself was difficult to find being enclosed in the wooded area and a few directional signs in the immediate vicinity would have helped. We also visited the formal gardens which were well laid out and very much worth a look.

Wightwick Manor and Gardens is an exquisite destination that offers a captivating glimpse into the Victorian era, blending art, history, and nature in perfect harmony. The manor itself is a splendid example of the Arts and Crafts movement, with its richly decorated interiors, intricate woodwork, and stunning Pre-Raphaelite artworks. Walking through the rooms, you can almost feel the presence of the Mander family who once lived there, thanks to the meticulously preserved furnishings and personal artifacts. The gardens are equally enchanting, with a variety of seasonal blooms, well-kept lawns, and serene water features that create a tranquil atmosphere. Whether you're an avid gardener, a history enthusiast, or someone looking for a peaceful retreat, the gardens offer something for everyone. The knowledgeable and friendly staff enhance the experience with their insightful stories and helpful guidance, making every visit both educational and enjoyable. Overall, Wightwick Manor and Gardens is a must-visit for anyone in the West Midlands area. Its combination of historical richness, artistic beauty, and natural splendor provides a delightful and memorable experience.
