This little village is really such a neat destination. From what I’ve heard from shop owners in the village they lost some of their shops in 2008 and again when Covid hit. There are approximately a hand full of stores currently. The businesses include antique shops, collectible stores, a handmade jewelry store, and a restaurant. Most of the shop owners are very welcoming and pleasant. They’re driven to share the history of the little village and find new entrepreneurs to open up shop. Most of these shop owners actually live on the premises, some of which are retirees that have lived up to their dream of opening there own little store. There are quite a few homes in the village that have the German architecture, as well as a new, modern development which was built next door. The huge fountain (as seen in the picture) is accompanied by a few benches to chill out and enjoy the atmosphere, which is nearby to the restaurant. In my opinion, this village has a lot of potential to be a huge and successful tourist destination. The main things holding this village back is that most of these shops are very niche and don’t draw in the general public at large (while I can definitely appreciate these shop owners entrepreneurship and bravery). To complement the architecture they could use some german inspired businesses as well. The walkway could use an update (seems to be concrete) due to the large cracks throughout, this takes away from the aura. Also not such a huge fan of the red painted over it. All in all it was an experience to be remembered. I wish Stroudtburg Village...
Read moreIt was hot out today and a few of the shops were closed but it is such a cute little town within a town to walk around and great for outdoor photos. A little Lego shop with a really cool lego display set up including a lego monorail, a cute little vintage antique shop, a little corner coffee shop with some homemade desserts for sale, a nice little pub restaurant which was a good place to cool off after a walk around the quaint little area. Found out some of the shops are actually owned by the people who own the building and they open their own storefronts. It's such a great concept. Live and work no commute. Some upstairs are even rented as airbnb and some of the store fronts are rented out separately. Such a great concept. I'd love to live there myself. The fountain is beautiful and felt good getting a little splash while we stood there for...
Read moreWe visited Stoudtburg Village on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and the place was practically a ghost town. There was a number of cool shops and eateries, but many of them were closed or not clearly identified. On that note, the boundary between the commercial area and the residential area (which are almost identical) is not clearly demarcated, so you might find yourself standing on what seems like someone’s front porch before realizing you’ve passed all the shops.
All of that being said, it is quirky, well-themed, and picturesque — like a little Disney microcosm. Plus, the things I mentioned in the first paragraph make it an awesome liminal space. It’s clean, too, and well-maintained. It’s definitely worth a visit just to walk around and take in the scenery. If you go on a sunny day, keep in mind that there is very little...
