We stopped in Afton, WY, to buy gas and were surprised by this arch over US Highway 89, the main street through town. They call it the ‘World’s Largest Elkhorn Arch’ and it spans the entire road at 75-feet wide. It’s tall enough for high profile vehicles to pass under it at 18-feet. The idea came about in 1958 and over three thousand already shed antlers were used to construct it. By itself, the arch weighs more than 15-tons. The wooden sculpture of two-life-size male elk in a mating battle was added in the early 2000’s. It was very impressive and we stopped parked and walked back to where it would be in camera range.
