Six Flags New England definitely is the roller coaster capital of New England. If looking for thrill seeking coaster rides, then well worth the visit. Reason for two stars: Cost to Value ratio is not good if wanting to experience the rides.
AVOID SATURDAYS IN SUMMER!!! Our experience was Saturday, July 19, 2025. (Family of four, two adults, two teenagers, distance to park is 90 miles from Boston metrowest suburbs.)
GO WEEKDAYS INSTEAD IN SUMMER!
FACTS FROM OUR EXPERIENCE:
Total entrance cost $204. Reasonable cost range of other similar amusement entertainment areas. Selected this Saturday because it was our teenager daughter's actual birthday and she wanted to ride roller coasters.
ONLY RODE 3 RIDES DURING 7 HOURS.
Line to enter the entrance was longer than expected when arrived between 2 PM - 2:30 PM on Saturday, July 19. Park opens at 11 AM, closes at 9 PM. Things happen, understood, patience is expected on a Saturday in July.
Advice to management: When a guest has issues with the online pass, the employee should quickly guide guest to Guest Relations Office. Delaying this direction causes unnecessary line length. Consider a supervisor at entrance for quick assistance.
Pandemonium coaster experience: Wait time at 30 mins mark when heard auto recording for mechanical issue of ride with advice to wait for issue to resolve. Watched the employees attempt to repair ride control unit by lifting up the control panel. Follow-up auto recording for mechanical issue of ride had advice to depart line/go to another ride because of extend time to repair ride. Things happen, understood. Walked to Wicked Cyclone ride.
Wicked Cyclone coaster experience: Wait time at 45 mins mark when auto recording for mechanical issue of ride with advice to wait in line. Guests who walked back in the Fast Pass lane informed the other guests that ride was closed. Walked to Pandemonium ride.
Pandemonium ride experience: Wait time at 25 mins mark when auto recording for mechanical issue happened again. We decided to continue to wait in line. Total wait time 53 minute.. Length of ride: 1 minute 15 seconds.
Advice to management: Invest funds/install digital boards at the busier ride entrances to post updated "Wait Time" for Fast Pass / Traditional Pass guests. Digital board "Wait Time" would provide guests valuable info to better make a decision whether to go to other lines.
FACT: Took 2 hours to finally enjoy one ride at Six Flags NE. Beautiful clear skies weather with hot temp and high humidity. ENTERED 2:30 PM. By 4:30 PM finally rode one ride! AVOID SATURDAYS IN SUMMER!
Fast Pass not a finacial option due to cost. If have financial means, worth $60 to $160 extra cost per person for Fast Pass type selected to avoid average 50 mins wait time for rides on SATURDAYS.
FACT: Only rode 3 rides during our 7 hours at Six Flags NE. Why? Ride line wait times!
COST TO EXPERIENCE VALUE RATIO IS EXTREMELY POOR FOR SATURDAY IN SUMMER! SPEND YOUR MONEY FOR A WEEKDAY!
Finally, we observed person experiencing heat exhaustion with symptoms (passing out/collapsing/unresponsive) while standing in the Pandemonium ride line on the ramp to loading area. She had probably been waiting for 50 minutes at this point in afternoon. Guests looked for help. Appeared to be confusion on what to do among Six Flags NE five light blue polo shirt staff at ride loading station. A guest waiting in line was decisive, immediately moved her to shady area at Blizzard River ride exit structure. Navy blue polo shirt employee followed to help.
Advice to management: Invest/install emergency help posts (similar to a university campus). Try a few emergency help posts along the long wait time lines impacted by hot temps. When activated, the emergency help post will auto alert Six Flags NE Public Safety Office of the location to send First Responders immediately. A blue large button (under a clear plastic cover to lift) with simplicity to immediately summon help to a location. Cameras would capture guests who misuse an...
Read moreThis review is based upon visiting on Friday, 8/17/24. The weather was beautiful.
Going to an amusement park means you are going to spend a good amount of money. Anyone should expect that these days. What I am going to demonstrate below is that the amount paid to have a good experience at Six Flags New England is not worth it.
As a family of eight, we do what we can to cut costs. We were able to park for $15 outside the park in a private lot with a short walk, much better than paying $30-50 the park charges.
It was our mistake to miss that getting into the water park would cost us an additional $96 for our eight people. I actually think that was worth it, but wish we had known ahead of time.
Expect to pay $18-25 per person per meal (not including drinks) inside the park. Depending on your desires, it might be worth paying $45 for the unlimited food. But if you're adding it all up, the best you're going to do per person for an all-day, all-park experience is $100+, much more than the $29.99 price you see on the website. No, you can't bring your own food. There's not even free water in the park. So unless you plan on not drinking or eating all day, "$29.99" means nothing (if you can even find a day that has that price, which isn't easy).
That said, we've happily paid hundreds for other parks, right? Disney, no problem. Of course I don't expect Six Flags to be Disney, but I would expect a few things if we're paying over $100 per person: The park looks terrible in a lot of places. It wouldn't cost that much to add more landscaping. Just look under the Riddler - weeds, dirt, and overgrown mess. The park closes at 8:00. I assume they're saving even more money by not paying employees beyond that time? But beware: significant other parts of the park close even earlier. The water park is only open six hours total, closing at 6:00 PM. Most of the kids rides close down by 7:00. Why so early? It puts a rush on the rides that do stay open, creating longer lines. The bathrooms should be much cleaner. There should be water fountains and filling stations. I would be much more likely to come back. (I'm of the opinion that water shouldn't cost anymore than using the bathroom does.) I despise the concept of paying more to get to the front of lines. Yes, I know Disney does it, too. Don't like it there, either.
Also, the bugs were very bad with thousands of bees throughout the day. You couldn't really escape them, though none of us was stung, thankfully. Then around 6:00, black flies swarmed as well. I'm not completely sure how much the park can do about the latter, but they could probably do something about the bees.
Some positives: The water park was fun, except that a good portion of it was closed and appears to have been for a while with concrete planters separating those slides off. The tall green slide (that requires no tube) scratched our teens' backs and we saw others complain as well.
The wave pools and other water activities were pretty good, probably our kids' favorites.
Superman is still a phenomenal roller coaster. And there are definitely more roller coasters per capita than Canobie Lake. That is a plus.
There were some happy staff, more so toward the beginning of the day who made great effort to be friendly, waving to us on rides, and toying with our little ones (particularly at the gate). "Matt," who was running the small kids coaster in the Looney Tunes section was a great guy - made the experience more fun for our two younger kids (6 & 8). There was also a lifeguard in the activity pool who clearly loved his job while also being very responsible and keeping an eye on things. He danced his head side to side to the music as he scanned for trouble.
The food, while terribly priced, was actually not all that bad.
But all-in-all, we will pay more to go to Canobie Lake Park next time. Despite the frugality in me that surely you can sense if you've made it this far, I don't mind paying more if the experience is worth it. Six Flags, as it currently stands at the writing of this...
Read moreThe refill cups having to be scanned every time for a refill. Waiting in line with the same group of people ordering food just to get a drink refill can be an extremely long wait for only drinks. I did notice on the most recent visit that most of the drink refill stations now have scanners at them so you don’t have to wait with everyone else. The new life jacket policy hinders my children from being able to enjoy the pool. They are both in swim classes and know what to do if they were to ever fall into a pool. The infant life jackets also do not fit my youngest correctly and then she cries the whole time we are in the pool making it unenjoyable for us and everyone around us. They would not even let us sit at the very edge of the monsoon lagoon without her being in a life jacket even though we noticed other families not using them. When I asked an attendant why the other family didn’t have to put their infants in a life jackets, they told me that they told the family several times and they just ignored the attendant. So instead of asking them to leave or enforcing the policy with everyone, we were singled out. Half of the water park, the kid side, was shut down so my children couldn’t do anything at the water park that day due to the life jacket policy. The life guards and attendants are not on the same page. We were told by one life guard that my daughter didn’t have to wear a life vest as long as we were going to hold her the whole time which we were. Then we were told by a different life guard that we had to get out if she wasn’t wearing one. Then when we put her in a life jacket, we were told not that one and that we had to put her in a different one even though the other one different fit so we had no choice but to leave the water park with two crying children. The bathrooms are not very clean. I understand that many people are in and out of the bathroom all day, but when there are used feminine hygiene products on the floor and what I am assuming was menstrual blood on the toilet, that is unacceptable. The soda machines in the BBQ restaurant were out of ice and instead of just refilling the ice, they told us to go outside to the refill station next door for ice and just come back to refill drinks. It was 80°-90° degrees and we wanted someone cold to drink. The changing rooms smell like urine and should again be cleaned more frequently. There are people smoking all over the park, in bathrooms, and in changing rooms despite it being a smoke free facility. The blue accessibility pass is way over used and the policy is being abused. There are people who think they can ride any ride as many times as they want without waiting in line as long as they have a blue paper. The ride attendants don’t know or just don’t want to argue with them so they let them keep riding despite a long line. The back parking lot is not open which is fine, but that also means the back exit isn’t open so traffic is an absolute nightmare and we almost got into an accident due to only one exit. The traffic controls either don’t know what they are doing or have no way of enforcing anything so who would have been responsible if someone hit my car? The employees lack training on how to properly scan the passes or use the meal passes. We waited in line for over 30 minutes for dinner and were told we don’t have meal passes. We have a meal pass for each one of our passes and have been using it all season. We were told we had to walk all the way to guest services at the front of the park who confirmed we do have meal passes. We then had to go wait in another line for over 30 minutes to get food. They also wouldn’t scan our season cups to be refilled because we “didn’t have meal passes.” We have season cups and...
