The service was terrrible. Just awful. We are visting from out of town, found it on the map. Seems like a cool place to check out. Boy, big mistake. First, they sit us in the first room, much less appealing than the other, when asked about this, they said those we were reserved. (The entire time we were there, NONE of those tables EVER got occupied. Also we were there for about 2 hours) They put us this is crappy wobbly table in the back by the bar (far, far away). Love hearing employee conversations and remarks btw (very professional....). The waitress thought she could memorize our order without writing it down (Yup, she got it wrong.) And when I asked for recommendations for wine as to pairing with a particular dish--she was clueless. I was asking questions and nothing. We all got frustrated and switched to beers instead. So needless to say, after an extremely awkward ordering process we finally got our food (not everyone's plate was brought out at the same time and one of the plates was already cold...). After waiting for the corrections to take place--everyone finally got what they ordered and at a bareable temperature. Also took her 20 minutes to bring dessert. Which made me think are they making the freaking thing now? She finally reappeared only to say they didn't have any?? Where have you been for 20 minutes. Running to every grocery store in town to get it for me or something??? I have a feeling we received such crappy service because 1) we were the only non-white family eating there. 2) we were all dressed casually--nothing fancy after sightseeing all day. Oh and I'm saving the best for last. A member of our party has a thick Argentinian accent, despite living here for 30 years, she always maintained the accent. THE WAITRESS LITTERALLY SLOWED HER WORDS DOWN AND WAS TALKING TO HER LIKE SHE WAS STUPID. Despite the fact that all of us were obviously speaking English to one another. (This continued the entire time up until the point we left.) The food was decent, service was terrible, but the atmosphere is pretty. Take the place for what it is; a rip off in regards to food quality and presentation (literraly somethings looked like they had already been digested). A word of advice to the company, looks can be deceiving, just treat everyone...
Read moreMy wife and I, we're driving down from Pennsylvania and decided, after viewing their website, to make a reservation for Thanksgiving and our anniversary. The site showed a great, old colonial fireplace and wood paneled walls, the kind of atmosphere we were looking for to celebrate the occasion. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed to discover that the room was not what was shown, but a meeting hall in another part of the building. It was very cold and at first would not let us inside, but after knocking on the door, a group us were let in to a very small coat check area. This is when I saw this room with round and very long tables, like for a wedding reception. Our reservation was for 6PM, but it seems they were not ready for this group of over fifty people. After a few minutes, we were finally seated at the end of this long, twelve foot table. The whole experience was NOT what we expected. Drinks took a long time to be served and food was left on the table to pass around, to serve ourselves and they even ran out of somethings (cranberry sauce!). The food was cold and not worth the a hundred and fifty dollar, meal tab. We felt RIPPED OFF! Don't waste your visit, even if George Washington ate there, he didn't dine where we did and I'm sure the food was...
Read moreThis is a very historic building and tavern and we were super excited to go. However, things in the late 1700's were MUCH different than it is today and we forget, how SIMPLE those times were compared to now. And the ambiance reflects this. Very simple, very old, and just not real exciting, unfortunately. There was no information to read about the history of the establishment so it all felt pretty lackluster. The lunch menu is also very simple, but the food was good. The french dip was excellent as the beef is from a prime rib and the au jus sauce was their french onion soup which was fantastic. The peanut soup is a traditional soup from back in that time, and although very thick and peanut tasting, was kinda bland. The service was really good and the staff friendly. I bet dinner is more lively and has more options, but it was cool to dine in a historic tavern, just didn't really get that cool vibe I was hoping for like from the Green Dragon Tavern or Union Oyster...
