Very thankful for the 40 acre park with playground and ball fields at the Allendale Community Park. This is a great place for group gatherings and events, birthdays and graduation parties, and a fantastic place to take the whole family on a hot day for a picnic and splash pad play time.
However, many problems and issues exist with water related systens here in the spring of 2023 and will hopefully be addressed soon. For example, the pressure regulator on the drinking fountain at the picnic shelters is either missing or non-operational, causing it to shoot a powerful jet of water over 20 feet into the air (dangerous if you put your face over the drinking fountain before opening the valve to get a drink). One of the toilets in the men's restroom runs continuously, even after vigorous pounding on the cinder block wall in attempts to get the vacuum breaker to reset. Multiple stations in the splash pad show neglect of their wear items such as leaking bushing in parts that rotate causing diminished working pressure like the water canons, overhead tip buckets that should drop water but either don't fill or the bucket is broken, etc. This leaves 80% of the splash pad that works great, but 75% of the stations with moving parts are non-functional. Hopefully everything will be good to go once a balance of labor and consumable parts is established for maintaining the great...
Read moreI would give it 5 stars for potential- it’s an amazing park- it’s huge with beautiful mature maple trees and tons of seating and space for gatherings. The playground is big and there is a splash pad- however- it’s a bit outdated. Allendale is a growing community and I’m hoping their community park will soon reflect the town better. There’s a really cool looking historical home museum but it seems as if it is closed all the time- such a beautiful property. The park has so much potential to be the nicest park in the Grand Rapids region for its variety of things to do and beauty- just needs some...
Read moreI went here with some friends on the 4th of July and was overly impressed by not only the event and activities planned for that day alone but also the park itself for regular use. There are baseball diamonds, tons of playground equipment, lots of seating areas - both covered and not, and of course the two splash pads - a smaller kid one and a larger kid one (kind of the same concept with the playgrounds). There's also a regular bathroom facility which makes it nice when going with kids. I wish this park was closer to my house as I would be here with...
