Although, currently is not even near the season for falls be seen as falls at all, early morning hike along the Sweetwater river is remarkable. There are lots of flickers, jays, finches, doves, some hawks and vultures, and, of course, turkeys one will meet while walking. There are many insects there as well: hoppers, wasps, butterflies, ants. And if you have some botanical knowledge, you will enjoy manzanitas, oaks, sycamores, ironwood, endotropies, hollyleaf cherries, buckwheats.

A very short hike with amazing raging waterfalls. The water is cold but we enjoyed it. Be very careful.. the rocks gets too slippery when they are wet. Cuyamaca Rancho Slate charges a fee to enter. If you have an adventure park pass hang it on the car windshield to enter. There’s tables and chairs for picnic.

We combined three different trails and ended up at the falls. The trails were easy to follow and uncrowded. Cuyamaca is truly a southern California gem. Careful parking on the side of the road. Most of it is "no parking" and very thoroughly enforced. @donutadventurers

While the hike to the falls is an easy one, it loses a star due to the crowds. The easiest set of falls to reach is always crowded. Most people are nice about it, but you can get someone who wants to be rude. Continue further down the trails and there are more spots to enjoy the water with less people, but farther from the picnic area, and uphill on the way back. The picnic area is mostly shaded and well taken care of. Campsites have plenty of room. Bathrooms...
