Make sure to wear big repellant if you go durning the summer! There are lots of bugs. This area is SO PRETTY though!! The trail isn’t too crazy. There are salamanders in the lake (you’re not supposed to touch or catch them because it will kill them). There are bathrooms nearby and a little place you can buy a snack/swag. It’s a pretty popular area and there are lots of folks on the trails. You have to pay a day fee to park at the base of the trail, but if you do Cecret lake via Albion basin you can park at the ski lodge and don’t have to pay. You also get to go through the fields of gorgeous wildflowers if you do that. If you choose to drive up to the Cecret lake trailhead beware that there are lots of big bumps in the road and it can be hard to get up if your car rides low. It’s a dirt road for the last part of it. We went up in the evening and there were lots of wildlife on the road coming down—Deere and porcupines. So be careful to not hit them if going or coming around dusk. There are also lots of campgrounds you can reserve up there. We didn’t do that but it...
Read moreModerately steep but doable hike to a picturesque lake. 3/4 mile trail and completely worth it. $8 for parking - you can save on parking by parking farther away but will have to hike an extra 2.5 miles on flat dirt road.
Definitely would arrive early. The lake really looks impressive with the shadows in the morning or the evening. We arrived at trail at about 8: 00 a.m. and it was just starting to get busy. It gets pretty hot in the middle of the day, And there's not a lot of shade. We went in July and the wild flowers were really stunning. For more adventurous groups, The hike around the corner and up to Sugarloaf peak (mountain behind the lake) is another 1.5 miles or so and gives great views in every direction. Hike is steep so may not be suitable for children. Took us about an hour up to the peak from the right side...
Read moreLovely trail! I think more than the lake at the end I liked the trail. Lots of trees and there were still a few wildflowers here and there (we went in early September) and crossing the water a couple of times was fun for my kids. We went in the evening around 7:30 ish and no one was there. (We tried earlier in the summer at around 10/11 in the morning and there was a long line to even be able to park so we had to come back larer) The weather was cool. I feel like the trail was longer than the 3/4 miles it says it is but that may be because it does get pretty rugged, rocky, and steep at the end. But the rocks are part of the fun! The lake itself is small but beautiful as well. We took our 3 kids ages 2, 5, and 7 and they...
