I like where they went with some of the room amenities. The reading lights on the headboard were very useful. I also liked the motion sensor lighting around the bottom of the bedframe. The only thing is, I wish they would have used the same motion sensor technology on the headboard ambiance lighting. This is one of the only hotels that I have seen that offers not only the USB charging port, but also the USB C charging port as well. That was a very smart choice. They didn't go cheap on the toiletry amenities. The single king room, though a bit on the small side, used the space in a way that made it a comfortable space. The breakfast was very well put together and offered many different options. Their breakfast is in the top two for which I have experienced in the Des Moines area. I did not visit the gym or pool, infact I'm not even sure if they have one. This is a perfect example of a successful remodel of an old hotel. The lobby area is small but put together tastefully. I am glad they used more space for the breakfast area than the lobby. My only issue was when I tried to stream from my phone to the TV in the room. I believe the issue was because I did not have the TV remote, only the direct TV remote, when pairing I was unable to select the pairing number showing on the TV screen. I will say the direct TV remote worked for everything else for the TV except for the Bluetooth pairing box that appears when pairing with my phone. Since I was unable to pair, my only option was the Netflix app on the TV. It had that and Paramount only. Since there are no movie channels like Max or Cinemax, it would have been nice to see more apps like Max and Disney Plus. I work in the industry so I wanted to give feedback that is accurate for travelers and commends the property owner and staff while providing some feedback to ponder. Cleanliness was 10 out of 10 and the gentleman behind the front desk did recognize my member status and was very accommodating and the woman working night shift was also very friendly. I definitely recommend this property. In all honesty, in some ways, it beats out the Premier in Ankeny, not in grandeur, but in some of the basics of...
Read moreFirst time at this location for a family weekend vacation (summer). I don’t recommend unless your plans are to visit Adventureland, and Prairie Meadows Casino/horse racing (right across the street from the water park-convenient, a mile drive to the casino) during the summer months. Reasonable $ (book months in advance people for the best rate with your BW Rewards and availability). Tiffany (manager)-excellent; Karla (assistant)-wonderful! My complaint is the hotel was overcrowded. Too many people. The complimentary breakfast was “gone” within the first hour; we opted to go out for breakfast everyday. The lobby coffee maker was broken our entire stay-we went to Starbucks for our cappuccino. Staff did their best to keep up with the food supply demand. The snack/beverage area does not have a price list posted for customers clearly visible, therefore $5 for a soda and a candy too much for our budget (I get it, convenience). Our room: the main entry latch defective (argh!), the tub faucet defective and needs replacing, one of the headboard lights broken, the room on the top floor was very humid and warm (set our a/c to 68 for comfort), no complimentary bottled water (tap water tasted terrible so we stopped at a gas station and bought some)-first time ever for us for this to occur. The rooms were clean and ready before we arrived. Thank you girls! Our guests room: broken bathroom door handle, room humid and warm (first floor a must tho with kids). The pool area: way too hot and humid, pool water way too warm, several unruly guests. We couldn’t enjoy the pool with our grandchildren, but their parents tackled the job the best they could. Tiffany suggested Brick & Ivy (located next door) for a meal-very good, and she gave us a discount coupon, too. Also recommended other restaurants for us that were good, close by and affordable. Mainly pleased this stay with the staff Tiffany & Karla; they made this family get together a success. Would I stay here again? Yes, but in the early Spring or late Fall only as summer months a no-go for us at...
Read moreJonette, the staff person who checked me in, was very nice and answered some questions about nearby places. The pool was very clean and was the perfect temperature, and the pool area was also very clean. Later, after supper and settling in, I could not get the wifi to work on the TV, so I was not able to get any decent channels to come in. I called the front desk, and a different staff member quickly came up to try and fix the problem, but was unable to fix it. She was very apologetic and kind and offered to put me in another room. She left for a short period, then came back and let me know that the wifi was not working in the whole place. She was very apologetic and said that they could discount my next stay. The bed was very comfortable and I really liked the smaller pillows. Breakfast started at 6:30. I went at about 7. The pancakes, sausage links, eggs, and gravy were all a cool temperature, and the biscuits were very hard. There were other breakfast options of fruit, cereal, and breads, so I had a bagel with cream cheese. When I went and checked out, I let the current staff member know that the breakfast was cold so that someone could check into it. I also explained what had happened with the wifi and TV the night before. She was very snappy and said that she didn't know why a staff member would tell me that, as she wouldn't have the authority to do so. I said that was fine and could I just get my receipt. She still kept going on about it, which made me feel like she was insinuating I was lying, which I found very annoying. I finally had to ask again if I could just get my receipt. I believe if the staff member that I had the discussion with about a discount, failed to pass that information on or had in fact misspoke on how it could be handled, the staff member number 3 should have looked into it and someone could have emailed me about it. I found it very rude and belittling to be talked to in...
