This is a nice, forested/shaded out-and-back trail to the top of Mt Erie. It took us about 25-30 mins each way, and the incline is enough to get your heart pumping for at least a few minutes. What we liked: while the SugarLoaf trailhead was PACKED, this one was quiet with plenty of parking (930 am on a Sunday). Also, it's doable if you don't have a ton of time. Plus, the views at the top are fantastic: eagles and hawks were hunting below us and views of the water are lovely. You can pick and choose where you want to sit and get away from the crowds (and there are those, because.....). What we didn't like: you can drive to the top, so there were tons of people. Read moreWe decided to drive up to the summit from Anacortes. Short, steep drive through amazing forest area. Stunning, breathtaking, amazing views from the top!!! There were also lots of marked trails to hike around but we didn’t do that this trip, mostly just stared out at the view. So beautiful up there. On the way down we stopped at the little Heart Lake. People swimming, kayaking, fishing.. such a nice little lake to spend some time. If you are looking for something to do in Anacortes this is beautiful.. fun for kids to explore too. Amazing views of both Mt. Rainier and Mt. Baker.
There is a little more parking at the trailhead - drive up and there is a sign. Not sure maybe room for 20-30 cars if you wanted to park...
