Let me start off by saying Axe throwing was a ton of fun. We really enjoyed it! So the game itself gets a 5 out of 5 stars.
What led to the 4 stars were...
(1) we showed up 15 mins before the start time as directed but had to wait 15 mins on people who were late. I feel like we shouldn’t have had to wait on late people and should have started on time. Furthermore, them being late meant less play time for us. Game time was 6-7:30. We started playing 6:25 and still had to stop at 7:30. Our game master gave us an extra 5 mins which was nice but we still felt cheated.
(2) We didn’t realize we’d be sharing the space with 6 other people. We thought we’d have a bay to ourselves (considering we went on vday as a date) and would get to play the whole time. Reality is, we played for a total of 10 mins each. The rest of the time was spent sitting on the bench while you go through the rotation of others throwing.
So needless to say, to us, the price is way to high for a few mins of actual throwing time. If you have to share the space with others, then I feel it should be limited to 4/5 people at most so you get lots of playing time.
Aside from the two complaints, Kersey Valley is still an awesome place to visit and has a lot of fun activities. At this point I’ve tried everything but the zipline and thats on my list for...
Read moreA long walk spoiled by wooden targets. I had never thrown, and I went with my friend who is an experienced thrower. We did the outdoor throwing, a hike through the woods with long pauses to watch other people throw while waiting for your turn. With two targets at most stops, and only 3-5 chances to throw, you barely get a chance to get the balance before you have to stop, wait, then move on. I was mostly bored, my friend was frustrated with what he considered to be sub-standard throwing axes. And we had an incident - one of the other ladies was wearing shorts and cut herself in the leg while walking to the target with the axe in her hand down by her side. Our "Axe-pert" was very unconcerned about the cut - not hurrying, no gloves, just kind of "oh, wipe off the blood, here's a band-aid, move on". A little off-putting, since Kersey Valley usually has a very high standard for safety. I might try the indoor throwing, but won't do the outdoor again.
EDIT - Brought up to 3 stars due to their positive customer service and attention to detail. Owner contacted me personally to...
Read moreI've been to indoor axe throwing and enjoyed it, but this outdoor course is like nothing you've ever done before. What a cool concept! It's like a sporting clay course with axes! Lot's of different kinds of "shots" keep things interesting, and the 25' viking throw along with some other unique setups make this head and shoulders above any other axe throwing experience out there. Guides kept everyone safe and made sure rules were followed, but that didn't impede on the fun. A fantastic concept, and a great time! I highly...
