I was here for an Evening with Peter Bogdanovich and a screening of the movie he directed, The Last Picture Show. This was the inaugural event for the Westobou Festival 2014. I wasn't familiar with him but I was familiar with the movie. On a episode of one of my favorite shows, City Confidential, they did a profile of the city that this movie was shot in.
I won tickets to this event and was kind of excited to witness it because in my normal life I wouldn't have gotten a chance to be a part of it. It was a breeze going into the movie. Tickets were taken at the door and the ushers assisted you to your seat. I had a fairly close seat to the stage.
The beginning of this event started with an introduction of the sponsors and the people who made this event possible. Then Mr. Bogdanovich was introduced and brought out. There was about a 20 minute interview done before the screening of the movie. He talked about his life with his parents, how he got his start, things he worked on, movies he directed, and how he chose his actors and actresses for his projects. He was very candid and once he talked I realized he was kind of a big deal. I would do my research later and find out some great facts. He introduced the movie and it began.
Honestly, I didn't enjoy the movie at all. I don't know what it was but I didn't like it. I think it was that the plot was all over the place and the story was kind of weak. After the movie there was a question and answer section for the audience. I had a question for Mr. Bogdanovich but decided not to ask it. I wanted to know from his expertise how can he tell when a movie was directed well, because while he was being interviewed he said about a particular movie that the movie was acted well but it wasn't directed well.
I was honored to be in the presence of this Hollywood legend!!! He has been nominated for Oscars and many other awards and he was in my all time favorite movie, Kill Bill, and he has so much respect for one of my favorite directors too, Quentin Tarantino!!! I will remember this night for the rest...
Read moreI love the arts- music, so every year I attend a few performances to support locally. They are located on the University of Augusta campus. I bought tickets online in advance, this performance is yearly. The talent of course changes as the students move on and graduate. The parking is behind the bldg, so be prepared to walk a bit to the front door. They had the campus decorated and for Christmas, so I really enjoyed all the lights. The inside was very clean and tidy. I really like how organized check in was, and open seating. So make sure you arrive for a great seat. The show was approx 2hrs long, so not bad at all.
"Behold The Star" was absolutely amazing performance in Augusta, GA. I will check them out yearly for sure. It was well worth the drive and time spent.
See there website for all the other...
Read moreThe Augusta University was very easy to find and the Grover C. Maxwell Theater is just to the right of the main entrance. There is plenty of parking, just take the first right after entering the main entrance; parking is behind the theater. The walk from the parking lot is short and pretty well lit. The theater was clean and attractive. Seating in comfortable. The performance was outstanding and very entertaining... well worth the $5 ticket price. After the performance the performers came out and met the audience. We had an excellent time and we plan to attend every...
