They have pretty good Mass, relative to what many have become. I have attended the Sunday evening when necessary (if I’d been unable to attend Mass that morning at my parish). Very beautiful alter area. Not as reverent as I like, but far from the irreverence I’ve experienced at some in other cities. In my opinion, modern “praise music” and acoustic guitars are not appropriate for the solemnity of Holy Mass, but at least they’re stationed back in the choir loft and not center stage. Personally, I prefer a more traditional Mass that has an alter rail at which one may kneel to receive the Holy Eucharist, but I’m pleased that St. Mary on the Hill recently began providing kneelers so those who choose to kneel before our Lord, can now. Generally, the homilies are faithful to Church teaching, though there was one I heard recently that was disturbingly progressive. I’ve attended Sunday evening Mass here only occasionally, when I’ve had to miss Mass at Most Holy Trinity, so I cannot confirm how often that happens. Overall, I would not choose this as my parish, but it’s not horrible - I find it just isn’t life giving the way reverent masses are (emotionally, that is). Also, you’ll still see plenty of short skirts and sweatshirts, etc., which is a pity. A lot of monied folks & politicians there, so that says a lot. Overall it’s not too bad, I suppose. Again, this is the opinion of someone who thirsts for reverence and devout worship, so that colors my perspective. Many love this parish, and it is quite...
Read moreBeautiful old cathedral-style Church with myriads of accommodations. We attended the funeral of a family member and the priest did everything he could to make sure that the service was about the deceased and her family. They were able to have the viewing in a side chapel and, then, the funeral Mass in the main cathedral. After the graveside service, the Social Hall was used for the reception. Everything was so we'll thought-out to make it far less stressful on the family. Might also mention that the parish has a school one block...
Read moreBeen attending this beautiful church for 34 years - my children attended SMS and Aquinas - but late last year we decided to sit inside instead of the cry room because there are 2 families whose got all their small children ( walking babies/ toddlers) play around - with their car toys near the glass and use it as a playground - very disruptive . I thought we have nursery service . We attend 12:15 mass for 3 decades . Love children but my 1 hour plus time with the Lord in church is very important to me...
