I have been a member of this company for a little over 15 years and I would Not recommend this gym or company in general to anyone. I moved here from Houston almost five years ago. My first impression was a year before that when I visited for the week. The floor was so dirty the yoga instructor cleaned the floors with some of the yoga students because we didn't feel comfortable lying in hair, dust and dirt. The first week I moved to Austin I trained here and the smell of the ladies restroom smelled like a combination of a tuna factory and a sewage plant. And just last week actually, over half of the restrooms were unflushed and dirty as well, with urine on the seats even.
If you're okay with settling,... with extremely unclean facilities, filthiness, rude customer service, (they actually ignore you most of the time and don't even greet their members),... lower standards and pure MEDIOCRITY if your preference, this just might be your jam.
But if you have higher standards for yourself personally and professionally and are in quest of a gym that is clean, safe, friendly, professional, and respectful, then there are plenty of gyms here in Austin that are a great fit for that.. This wouldn't be one of them. My last straw was last week when I lost a diamond earring that was an anniversary present. Although I take full responsibility and accountability for my belongings, and honestly those kinds of things just happen really, no big deal right. (that's what insurance policies and warranties are for of course) ...But the way they handled it was so unprofessional and quite frankly ABSOLUTELY unacceptable that I had to cancel my membership. I went into this gym the next morning (to see if, by chance hopefully I could find my earring upstairs where I left it) And the floors had NOT been cleaned. Which told me that both the girl and young man on the phone had straight up lied to me about checking if it had been turned in. And they did not even ask for my information, I had to volunteer that because they didn't know that was something you needed to do in order to get back with the member in case it turned up.
And also when I asked the young lady about their process of valuable missing items, and if they had one, her answer was "Oh Yeah, we do" and then she couldn't explain to me what it was.
There hasn't been any formal training in customer service or how to speak to their members or handle certain situations apparently.
It isn't about the earrings. Nor any material things. Because those things can be replaced. However, the people, cannot be replaced. It's about treating people with professionalism and with respect, and not just a number or a paycheck. The members are the entire reason why the company is in business. Yet as I have seen and experienced, they are not treated as such. It's also about taking pride in your work and paying attention to the details. The details are important, and your customers should be important to your business. In my years of experience with 24 Hour, unfortunately they are not.
I am a business owner and an entrepreneur and personally I would not EVER speak to my customers or patients in this manner. Not would I allow my staff to do so. I would have personally checked on the member myself and done everything I could to help or have had my staff trained to handle such situations and do what they could to help them as well. But that's just me. I take pride in my work and I actually CARE about me clients. They do not care here and that is quite evident in every aspect of the facility and the way that they do business here. There are a lot of fantastic gyms to train at here in Austin, great energy and are CLEAN! Gyms with great customer service and positive, uplifting energy. Gyms that greet their customers and treat them with respect and professionalism and go above and beyond for their customers. I was a customer for a decade and a half, a quiet and reserved person that is always respectful and very patient with them. If they treated me as such, imagine how they will treat you. You...
Read moreThis gym isn't perfect but I've been a member since June 2022 and for the most part I've enjoyed this location. That is until today. I was deadlifting off of the floor like I have done at least a hundred times at this location when I was approached by one of the "master coaches" RAY TAMEZ. He asked me, " why don't you deadlift on the platform?" Before I even got a chance to fully respond and tell him that the squishy platforms the weights sit on shift and make it difficult to maintain proper form, he hastily tells me that pulling from the floor is "tearing the floor up" and continued to passively aggressively scold me for deadlifting on the floor. To me that was odd because I've seen plenty of other lifters deadlift on the floor. There's also another trainer that teaches deadlift on the same floor I was on! I've also deadlifted off of the floor almost three times every week in front of almost every other staff member and was never approached. I told him do you want me to stop and he again says " well you're tearing the floor up" but doesn't give a straightforward yes or no. My friend who was also at the gym came over to ask me what happened and Ray comes back to continue talking 5h1t and I finally ask him do you want me to stop or not because he was being immature and passive aggressive. He could have been professional and just straight up asked me to deadlift on the platform instead of the floor. I cancelled my membership because I don't appreciate being harassed by insecure staff members. Everyone else on the staff has been great up until this point but this experience has really disappointed me. Hopefully this can be a learning experience for Ray Tamez and he can work on his people skills and communication. I'm going to go to another gym that is more professional. Also I only had 225 Lb on the bar lol. And the men's restroom is...
Read moreI recently visited this gym, and I must say it left me quite disappointed. I opted for an annual membership, and given that this is one of the two 24-hour fitness facilities in Austin (the other operating for just 12 hours and the place where I got my membership), I expected a high standard.
Now, what really bugged me was the cleanliness, or rather, the lack of it. I mean, seriously, how can they justify having cleaning services just once a day for a place that's open 24/7? It doesn't add up.
The locker room was, well, let's just say it wasn't a pleasant experience. It smelled like a subway restroom, and I could see dirt and mud all over the floor. The unmistakable smell of urine hung in the air. To put it frankly, it looked like they hadn't bothered to clean the locker room and showers for at least three days.
I had plans to hit the sauna, but as soon as that funky smell hit my nose, I made a beeline for the exit. I believe 24-Hour Fitness can do better. It feels like a letdown to have a 1-year membership and then encounter what I'd call a 'Charlie Foxtrot' situation.
The only reason I didn't give it a 1-star rating is because the attendant was actually helpful.
As for making things better, here's my take. They seriously need to up the cleaning game, especially in places like the locker room. And they absolutely have to deal with that smell issue; it's a mood killer.
Right now, I'm thinking about reaching out for a refund because it just doesn't make sense to have a membership that gives you access to multiple gyms, but only one of them is reasonably fit for human occupancy.
All in all, my experience at this gym didn't live up to my expectations, and I hope they take feedback seriously and make some much-needed...
