I wish I could choose less than 1 star. I have been here a few times in the past. Today my friend invited me for a drink, although I was hesitant based on previous experience I decided to go. Once there Candy was a great server. When the food came out was when the disappointment happened. I ordered chicken sliders, the fries were cold and the buns were hard as rocks. Once thrown on the table they crumbled to make a mess. I complained to the food runner and he brought out fresh fries. I then ordered a second drink to be able to stomach this aweful bar food and once the drink runner appeared at the table I moved napkins and water cup only for her to continue to stand there clueless, so I asked are you going to drop the glass or drink it? I guess because I made her feel stupid because her only response was you don’t have to talk to me like that. Clearly I do. Shortly after that I notice her in the kitchen area talking to the food runner, once they notice me looking at them the shut the curtain, like I don’t know what is happening. Either way Candy offered to comp my food which I declined. I told her I was only giving her feedback to share with the team. Her response was well I don’t want you to pay for food you weren’t happy with. I told her I will pay for everything I ordered and call the general manager to express my concerns. I paid my bill and tipped accordingly. I called the general manager Paul to voice my concerns and while expressing myself he laughed and didn’t listen or entertain what I was telling him. He literally told me to send him an email and he will look into it. I told him that I felt the phone call to him was wasting both of our time and that sending an email would do the same but I would send him one. As soon as the phone call ended he texted me accusing me of trying to steal a drink and threatened me with police if I came back again. He then preceded to text me to tell me not to call or text him again. Honestly I’m really disappointed in food, staff,...
Read moreWingzup is AWESOME. Forget what other people say, here's what you need to know:
The wings are top notch and a great deal. The flavors range from delicious honey mustard to scorching ghost pepper, with combinations in between that both puzzle (Bay heat? My wife loves it anyway) and delight (spicy garlic!). This is bar none the best wings I've yet found in Austin. I'm a bit of a wing fanatic, I've been to Pluckers and all those other places, and they're good. Wingzup is better. Their standard buffalo sauce is great too. And on Mondays wings are 50 cents. On Tuesdays boneless wings are 50 cents. On Wednesdays tenders are a dollar. That is an incredible deal any of those days you come. The rest of the food is great too, from poutine to waffle fries to mozz sticks. It's all done as if there's a decent chef back there thinking about it.
The beer. They're really proud of it and they ought to be. Their beer is served CRAZY cold. Apparently the hoses from the kegs to the taps are only a few feet long (the kegs are right behind the tap wall), so the beer doesn't lose any temperature, it comes out ice cold, colder than anywhere else I've had it without a frosted mug. Their happy hour specials on mugs and their tower beer thing make it a great place to sit back and watch the game.
Sports stuff. Watched the BCS champ game here, loved it. It's an open space where you can see a TV no matter where you sit. The one thing is that it might be hard to watch something when everyone else is focused on another thing, but that's true of almost all sports bars.
Definitely give this place a try, especially on Mon, Tues, or Weds when you get the deal. One day on Weds we won the trivia night and got 50 dollars in coupons. Maybe that makes me biased but I like to reward generosity and quality with repeated visits. This is a regular...
Read moreI have visited Wingzup twice. The first visit was about three weeks ago, great time, great recommendations by the waitress, and good boneless wings. Solid visit while they weren't busy. But today's visit sucked enough for me to write this.
I had bought ten "premium" golden wings to-go with Spicy Lemon Pepper and Jamaican Jerk, but I found the wings were burnt. Like, black charred chicken wings burnt. I had to season the wings myself since they put the sauces and rub on the side, which I did not expect. I was hungry, so I did not bother getting out my pans to season the wings properly, and just dipped them in the plastic to-go cups. That sucked.
I suppose some might think I should had opened the box before I left. Unfortunately that didn't occur to me, as I only peeked into the bag to check if there was the Fried Macaroni that I ordered. Seeing that, I was happy to walk out the door. I was accustomed to how Pluckers does it, with the wings already seasoned, separated by foil in a single box for different sauces. This one just had ten wings together with all the sauces in a separate brown bag.
Additionally, the communication ball was dropped while I was waiting for my order. I had come in and ordered to-go, and ended up sitting around for 25 minutes watching people who had come in after I have receive their order. Waiter did not relay to whoever brings out the food that I was already in the restaurant, and not a phone-call order that was going to swing by.
Lisa, you were polite and noticed I was sitting around and had found out that information for me, which I am thankful for your awareness, but this experience has left me upset with a bad taste in my mouth. Next time I'll save myself the trouble and just go to Pluckers in West Campus, or just pop some frozen chicken tenders...
