UPDATE9.29.2023
Travis County has decided in all their infinite wisdom to only allow people who have boats or a water craft in the area under the bridge. There used to be benches and such where everyone could enjoy the lake. A nice Park Ranger came along, because I went there before the county employees arrived and noticed my Handicap Placard in my window and said there were parking spaces for handicapped people, and even moved a cone and allowed me to park there. But the next time I went, I was approached by a smart mouthed young girl who commenced to tell me that I knew I wasn't supposed to be there. I chewed her out for what she said to me and I told her what the Park Ranger told me. She also argued that point. I did call and speak to her supervisor, but the supervisor told me that the Park Ranger was wrong, and that they only allow boats and not pedestrians for safety reasons.

Even after living in this city for over 15 years, the scenic beauty I encounter every time I cross the bridge never ceases to amaze me. Its distinctive arch design, stretching gracefully over the Colorado River, always offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Hill Country.
One of my absolute favorite spots to visit is the "Pennybacker Bridge Overlook." It's a truly special place to witness a peaceful, quiet sunrise. From there, I can gaze at the magnificent bridge, watch the Colorado River flow serenely underneath, and observe the boats and jet skis crossing by. It's a moment of tranquility that truly encapsulates the unique blend of urban sophistication and natural charm that Austin embodies. The bridge itself is a testament to modern architecture, blending seamlessly with the natural environment, and for me, it's a beloved and enduring feature of the Austin landscape that I...
Read more"Welcome to Austin, TX" is what I hear whenever I look out over this cliff side. This is literally one of the best views in Austin, TX.
Located right before the iconic 360 bridge this overlook requires a short, steep hike to get to the cliff side. Once you get to the peak of the ridge you are welcomed with a captivating view of the Colorado river, 360 bridge, Austin country club golf course, Austin skyline, and the Texas sky. Take a moment to let the view sink in and the beautiful blend of nature and human development in one scene. This is one of my all time favorite places to visit and a must visit for anyone wanting to soak in the scenic beauty of Austin, TX. Overall, it's free there isn't a reason to not visit this location... unless if there are thunderstorms in the area.
Side note: if you're travelling north the parking is located before you drive onto the bridge on the right side. It can be easy to miss and crowded so be aware of traffic as cars do travel fast...
